Police have called upon the military for help and are scratching their heads as to how and why a man in southern Sweden managed to amass an arsenal of hundreds of weapons, 557 of which he had a licence to own. Police were notified on Thursday that a 70-year-old man had weapons stashed in his home in Värnamo, south of Jönköping. When they arrived the next day, they were stunned to find hundreds of weapons and weapon parts, including grenades, guns, and ammunition.
http://www.thelocal.se/20140205/70-year-old-swede-had-557-weapons-at-home-cops-fear-blast

And there the thread ends. Also fixed it for ya.
Holy shit was he planning to outfit a partisan group or something?
I wish i had that many limbs to hold all of those guns.
Most of the weapons are from the 60s and 70s, but some are from as early as the 1600s.
Damn, I'd like to see those.
Damn, I'd like to see those.
I can imagine if you sold every weapon, it would easily get over 500k in USD.
Most of the weapons are from the 60s and 70s, but some are from as early as the 1600s. But the chief problem has been the military weapons, details about which police refuse to elaborate on, as their presence initially raised fears of an explosion.
Sounds to me like the old dood has a collection of old hunting rifles and antiques with some surplus dud hand grenades so the Swedish government is flipping out, even though he has licenses for all of them. [editline]6th February 2014[/editline] I wouldn't doubt it if all the "military" ones were deactivated too.
Sucks he's getting them all taken away. Doesn't seem like he wants to do harm with them.
God bless that man!
At least let him keep the antique stuff.
So, you can legally own weapons until they change their minds and take them away on a whim? Well that sucks. Why even take them? Do they really think there's a risk that he'll walk outside with 556 rifles strapped to his back and start shooting? They'll probably be thrown into a fire-pit too.
People got scared, there was literally no reason to take the weapons away other than 'omg he has so many guns take them away so I feel safer'. Hope he gets em back though I doubt it.
The gun owner, referred to as "Bosse" by Sveriges Radio (SR), said that he had worked on his collection for 50 years via an "extensive contact network". He said he thought the police were "overreacting", and that their actions were the result of "ignorance and fear".
Even he thinks that.
What I don't understand is how he could obtain 557 licenses with our stringent laws regarding firearms. He must have had a friend on the inside because you got to motivate the need for another weapon when applying for a new license.. Especially for handguns, Hunting weapons are easier to obtain but there are still restrictions on how many you could possibly need. I don't think "collecting" is viable when applying for a license.. Oh and get this, he had a fucking anti-air cannon too..
You say that like firearms licensing and registering actually works and serves a purpose. For a government, that shits a bureaucratic nightmare and I wouldn't doubt it if whoever was in charge of approving licensing was just stamping papers without looking. I mean in the US, the BATFE actually looks at their paperwork and it takes upwards of a year to get a SBR or a suppressor stamp, and god help you if you want a class III.
News normally talks about old men getting bashed by teenagers from what I usually see. Now old men are striking back to reclaim their place as ultimate war machines. At least... Well, this guy has more than 557 weapons, no one is coming near him.

Although I'm reading that you need to apply for a permit if you're going to fire your collection weapons.
He did not securely store the weapons according to regulation.
You'd literally need a top security warehouse filled with weapons safe's to lawfully store 556 rifles according to the swedish firearms regulations, so I'm not surprised. Or start a firearms museum, his collection probably outranks most of such museums in impressiveness.

If he had been able to keep them all, unsecured, they'd be a very attractive haul for criminals.
;43809023']He's a true American
a gun nut?
If he had been able to keep them all, unsecured, they'd be a very attractive haul for criminals.
What kind of criminal would want a bolt action? I'm sure if they're any sort of organised, they'll smuggle in handguns instead, hell I'm sure they already have handguns, they just don't use them because that would bring the heat.

Can't remember the exact limit though.
Because having more than one gun makes you that much more dangerous.
a gun nut?
Yep. He'd fit in real well over here, if he could tolerate the heat.
