Double Standards - Is it the same with the roles reversed?

We've all seen it, the simple fact is this: Females are less likely to be punished in a lot of circumstances
Agree, or disagree.
But I am still providing evidence
FORT MYERS, Fla. -- A Fort Myers mother says she feels powerless after her 11-year-old son was pinned down at his neck and stripped naked by two middle school girls.
At first glance the minute-long YouTube video looks like kids playing. But it soon takes a disturbing turn as the boy cries out for help, humiliated and pinned down to the ground.
"Mommy!," he yells.
The video, which has since been taken down, shows two Dunbar Middle School girls holding the boy down in broad daylight, inside a gated community.
The boy begs the girls to stop as the rip off his bathing suit, leaving him naked lying on the ground.
The title of the video, which was online for more than 24 hours, says the boy is getting "owned."
"I'm surprised these girls can just do that and get away with it," said the boy's mother. "Or there are no repercussions."
Fox 4 is not releasing the names of anyone involved.
The mother says Fort Myers police filled out a report but weren't much help at first.
The officer "said he didn't know if there was a crime committed but said it looked like a prank."
The police report taken Tuesday described the incident twice as a "prank" and says "police incident closed."
"Nobody cares, nobody cares," the mother said. "If this was my son doing it to a little girl there would have been lights and sirens at my door."
Shortly after Fox 4 contacted police they showed up at the mother's daughter. A spokesperson for the department says it has nothing to do with the media's involvement in the story.
They tell us the plan was always to follow up.
We wanted to talk with Chief Doug Baker about the case. After agreeing to an interview, he backed out because he didn't want to cause the boy further embarrassment, according to spokesperson Shelly Flynn.
Fort Myers attorney E.B. Newberry says at the very least this is a misdemeanor battery because the girls touched the boy against his will.
She says it could even be considered child pornography.
Newberry says if the situation have been reversed, the boy most likely would have been arrested - and admits there's a "double standard."
"Kids need to know they can't do these things and get off without anything," said Newberry. "But I also don't think that their future should be ruined either. It's a Catch-22."
And that is something the boy's mother is struggling with. She's not sure if she will press charges but feels the girls should face some sort of punishment.
Fort Myers police confirm this would have been a misdemeanor battery charge. They say unless the mother is willing to press charges there's not much they can do.
They say they are looking into what charges, if any, the YouTube element could bring but wouldn't elaborate.
"I think they should be held accountable for what they did," she said. "You can't do this to people. What gives you the right to do this?"
Yeah, sexual harassment is sooo just a prank
There was an advice column letter in The Toronto Star a few years ago on this very subject. A male abuse victim wrote in saying that his wife would often punch him during arguments, and that he didn't know what to do. He also mentioned he had several male friends who suffered abuse from their wives or girlfriends as well, including one who was put in the hospital as a result. None of them seem to have even considered going to the police, or leaving. And the letter really, really heavily emphasized that the man would never hit his wife — he repeated this point so many times, the letter almost sounded like he was the one apologizing for something. So, the (female) columnist's advice? "Remember that your wife might be under a lot of pressure at work, avoid assigning blame, and consider couples therapy."
Got put in hospital? Don't blame her, she just works a lot!

Look at number 15. What.
In a late night show displaying CCTV recordings from various suburban areas, multiple double standards were presented one after another during one clip. The scene showed a dispute between a couple which had turned violent, the girlfriend of the pair repeatedly hitting, punching, and attacking the boyfriend for well over a minute while he blocked her attacks. The only response he gave was repeated requests for her to stop until he finally took action, grabbed one punch and pinned her against a wall. Only to be body slammed and set upon by several people who had been watching while this took place, but did nothing while the girlfriend was attempting to beat him senseless. They then pushed him to the ground and began a literal No-Holds-Barred Beatdown. Eventually after several minutes he was allowed to limp away with the narrator informing the audience that he was sentenced to several months for his 'assault' and made a snarky comment about treating women better. Also contains some interesting Moral Dissonance since the bystanders "protected" a "defenseless" girl... by beating the crap out of her victim using their numerical superiority.
This speaks for itself
Horribly done in an Indian game show, where the female host curses at a contestant and slaps him (not according to script), and when he slaps back, the entire set gangs up on him and beats him to the ground. It turns out that the point of this entire segment of the show is actually this trope. The woman was supposed to insult and verbally abuse the two male contestants, and they were supposed to take it without losing their temper, and when she was unable to get a rise out of them, the contest's managers told her to go out and get more aggressive with them. Imagine if the roles had been reversed: a man going out and screaming insults in a woman's face? Detestable. A woman doing it? Fine and dandy. Luckily, the contestant was able to sucessfully sue the show for assaulting him, as he was nearly hospitalized. What was worse is that the video itself became famous, as people apparantly found it funny that the man "cried like a little baby." Because obviously, only "babies" find the idea of being beaten black and blue by 20 men to be unpleasant.
I know this isn't a lot.
And this has probably been made a thousand times, but nevertheless this is a pressing issue
i want to see statistics not anecdotes
It's the idea of male muscular superiority, where males can 'easily' take advantage of a female because of muscular differences, plus feminists.
I think that this is not equality, it's quickly becoming female supremacy, and I think that is wrong.
I agree.
As long as mental sexual dimorphism exists, there will be a double standard with gender. And it is an issue that should be dealt with whatever the cost, equality in terms of gender should come above statistics and instinct and the such. To do that is to completely rewrite everything that one knows about gender and masculinity and femininity and sexuality and the such, and to ignore instinct in a way.
To stop the double standard we need to get rid of our basic mental differences in terms of gender, even if it means ignoring our own instincts. Women can't be sheltered and infallible anymore, and have to act more like men, men must get rid of their stupid masculinity complex and stronger attitudes and such, acting more so like women.

This would in essence be impossible without some form of mass oppression and reeducation.
As in - No matter how evil and unworthy of existence the double standard is, there is no realistic or plausible way to erase it all together.

And after reading the disgusting goddamn stories in the OP, I'd be happy for what I had described to happen.

And all of those 'bystanders' in the articles, people who aid a woman just for the fact that she is a woman, need to be reprimanded and punished severely. Just as the 'catch 22' shouldn't exist, and doing something to the extent that the two girls did should follow them for the entirety of their lives, same with men.

so your solution to world hunger is to get people to ignore hunger

Behaviours that set us apart / correlation with subject. Hunger isn't an example for why there might be prejudice in the world.
hmmmmm, interesting.

^^ This is very true

There is a difference between a physical need and semi-conscious obsolete ideologies which create massive problems in a modern society.

False Argument, I forget the latin name for it.
What he's saying is that it would be a massive undertaking to remove the way our society has generated these roles, however I believe its an effort worth taking.
Also, to argue against the anecdotes, these are prime parts of the effects of misogyny. In a misogynistic society, if women were to overpower men, the man is seen as weak which is why these are articles are so sensationalist. However, I don't believe misandry exists or to such a degree that it invades our social lives as much as our misogyny tones that we've had for centuries.
Same with the slapping, in Indian cultures you are not supposed to strike a woman(Atleast in a public place), the entire idea goes against a significant part of their core values and with it being televised only riled up everyone else against him. In this case, its believe the woman could never stand up for herself so every male jumped in and beat the man who slapped the woman.
As for double standards, there are way to many to count. They're a pet peeve of mine so I actually ignore them completely. If a guy sleeps with lots of women/men, he's a whore. If a women sleeps with lots of men/women, she's a whore. If I get punched or attacked, I don't give a fuck who you are, I'll fight back unless I provoked the attack.
Double standards need to go, now, because they're only slowing down a long complicated process that HAS to happen.
