I'm trying to build a decent gaming rig which will also be used for some small video rendering. I want to keep as close to $650 as I can. I have the Ram and the HD already along with the monitors and keyboards. I haven't attempted to build a new rig for 8 years now, it's just all so new. Any help would be awesome!
Get a different power supply Corsair ones are good
Or should I go with the Amd 6Core
bad idea
How so?
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/147?vs=288 bottom line is i5 runs games much better, you pretty much chose the best gaming cpu out there right now in your op
Get a different power supply Corsair ones are good
Corsair power supplies are overpriced. Their builder line loses to the Neo Eco ones and their high ends are beaten by Seasonic, XFX and Antec power supplies.
Anything I could improve or get for cheaper?
Get this motherboard. It's actually better. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157271 Use the money you save with that to get a better case like a HAF 912 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157271 Finally. I would get a 560 Ti, noticeably better than the normal 560. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125401 Trust me, it's worth the tiny bit more money. It's a very noticeable improvement. [editline]24th February 2012[/editline] Also Get the Hyper 212 EVO as a CPU cooler. It's better.
A bit over budget. But I'm expecting a raise soon so I'm not that bothered. Thanks for your help!
That heatsink is not really that good afaik. Get a Hyper 212+ or Evo.
The 6870 is much cheaper than the 560 ti and there's just a marginal difference between the two. I don't think the 560ti is worth the price hike over the 6870 It's still a good card just... more expensive. Comparison - http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/290?vs=330

Nvidia's driver software is still miles ahead of AMD. The money you pay extra for the GTX 560 Ti is well worth it for the driver support alone, even if they performed exactly the same every time.
