SOURCE: http://www.koreatimesus.com/n-korean-scientist-flees-to-finland-with-info-on-inhumane-experiments/ (Has the reddit hug of death at the moment) Reddit thread https://www.reddit.com/r/worldnews/comments/3bw61m/north_korean_scientist_flees_to_finland_with/
A North Korean scientist with expertise in biochemical weaponry defected from his home country in June and has been spending his time in Finland. The 47-year-old left with 15 gigabytes worth of data and information regarding human experimentation, which he felt may have crossed ethical boundaries according to Yonhap News Agency.
Well, this will be interesting to see, wonder what the international community is going to do about this.
This will be interesting to see once it's compiled.
Keep this guy alive and keep his information safe until he is able to present it. I would not be surprised if Kim didn't send assassins to take him out before he can speak.
Holy shit. Really interested on what data he has. [editline]3rd July 2015[/editline] Also interested on how he got out of NK.
Probably got out through the Swedish embassy. Yes, we have an embassy in NK.
Same I wanna see some source on this claim.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_diplomatic_missions_in_North_Korea#Embassies
holy shit, that's quite a lot of data. really interested in what he's got, and what will be done afterwards to NK(most likely nothing like always).
so this time there is real prove that a country has WMD, I bet NOTHING is gonna happen
so this time there is real prove that a country has WMD, I bet NOTHING is gonna happen
I think we figured out they had WMD when they started setting off nukes and boasting about it
working with North Korean technology, the 15 GB of data was transferred on 12,500 8" floppy disks in the cargo hold of a 747
Probably got out through the Swedish embassy. Yes, we have an embassy in NK.
Crossing the "line" between Sweden and NK is like going from one dimension into a completely different one, isn't it? Anyway, gonna be morbidly interesting to find out about what they do in there...
Nice. Some insider info from a important figure as to what's really going on in NK regarding their military things would be great.
Now we have their secrets. [editline]3rd July 2015[/editline] also perkele
so this time there is real prove that a country has WMD, I bet NOTHING is gonna happen
So long as china is their ally not much we can do with how much of the economy they control
Can't wait to see how North Korea tries to dodge this.
OP knows how to make a headline, "inhumane experiments" sounds much more extreme than "human experimentation, which he felt may have crossed ethical boundaries".
In all honesty, I really think we shouldn't be joking regarding this subject. This man is risking not only his life, but the life of his family (if they're still alive) to get this data out to the world to show what this evil regime has done to god knows how many of its people all for the sake of making biochemical weapons of mass destruction.
Probably got out through the Swedish embassy. Yes, we have an embassy in NK.
Many more countries have diplomatic relations with North Korea, but most of them keep their embassies in Beijing. I once came across the NK embassy in Lima by accident. For a tyrannical regime obsessed with looks, the embassy doesn't really looks like one.
so this time there is real prove that a country has WMD, I bet NOTHING is gonna happen
Well they've had A nuke for some time now, whether a handful of nuclear devices qualify as nuclear weapons is debatable, I mean the US had to specially modify bombers to even carry the first bombs and while NK probably benefits from modern electronics and explosives, still probably hasn't miniaturized to the point that they can airlift it or loft it on a rocket, plus there's stuff that would have to be tested for those schemes too. Anyway having biological weapons is shocking to say the least especially if they have say smallpox or something like it [editline]2nd July 2015[/editline] What it will have though is a chilling effect on China because they don't want anyone around them to have a deterant of any kind and NK isn't known for being subtle with their demands
Amounts of fucks that will be given: 0 Amount of interest the world powers will have in this data: I can't quantify it. This guy must have balls of steel. Knowing he can be kidnapped in any moment and that any relatives will be sent to..."re-education camps"
N. Korea messing with biological weapons will not gain them points with China. Since any "accident" or use of those weapons would likely spread to China. And considering China's population, it would probably spread fast and be very devastating.
OP knows how to make a headline, "inhumane experiments" sounds much more extreme than "human experimentation".
Why use 51 letters when you could use 2?
I really don't think this will go anywhere, sadly. Because how do you take down NK without taking down China and Russia as well?
It'll take a while for their rowboats to find Finland :v:
It's not really a joke. Defectors have been hunted down and killed around the world, and those were just normal citizens that fled.
Probably got out through the Swedish embassy. Yes, we have an embassy in NK.
Seems a bit odd he would come to Finland specifically after having already managed to get to Sweden. Perhaps he just really doesn't like meatballs, i'unno.
I really don't think this will go anywhere, sadly. Because how do you take down NK without taking down China and Russia as well?
I somehow doubt they're a kind of super-bloc of ultra evil axis countries that will 100% always help eachother in every situation. I'm most likely wrong, but I at least like to think that's not the case.
Also interested on how he got out of NK.
He hid in an envelope and mailed himself.
Keep this guy alive and keep his information safe until he is able to present it. I would not be surprised if Kim didn't send assassins to take him out before he can speak.
I wonder how many non-Korean assassins he could possibly have
I wonder how many non-Korean assassins he could possibly have
They've sent assassins before and judging by a Vice doc they at least have some muscle in Russia as well. I doubt they would bomb an embassy or something but if I was him I definitely wouldn't be seen on the street anywhere.
