• Now nobody likes Buzzfeed: BuzzFeed's publication of Trump memos draws controversy
BuzzFeed's decision to publish unverified memos alleging that Russian operatives have compromising personal and financial information about President-elect Donald Trump has set off a fierce debate about the ethics of the decision and the responsibilities of journalists. On Tuesday night, BuzzFeed published a 35 page document compiled by a former British intelligence operative. That publication came shortly after CNN revealed that a two-page synopsis of the document's contents had been included as an annex in the classified materials presented last week to Trump and to President Obama. Among other things, the document -- which is a compilation of memos prepared by the former operative -- describes Russians who allegedly gave information about Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin to the former operative.
http://money.cnn.com/2017/01/10/media/buzzfeed-trump-report/
has set off a fierce debate about the ethics of the decision and the responsibilities of journalists
Yeah, several years late on that.
oh now nobody likes buzzfeed?
Buzzfeed should not be cited as a legitimate source. Hell, even their horoscopes are just copypasta crap.
It's an interesting situation. I think it's good that Buzzfeed is being up front about how, although it is the actual report, there is no conformation that the contents are genuine. So there's a big ol' disclaimer on the release. On the other hand it still does seem a bit hasty to release it when it's so unsubstantiated. They have forced it into the public conversation, though - probably as added pressure re: tax returns, Russian connection concerns that many are having.
When was Buzzfeed a news site? Seriously, I honestly didn't know they were. Why would people listen to Buzzfeed when they just post random crap no one cares about.
fucking finally I hate Buzzfeed so much it is like an echo chamber but it adds new flame to the pot for SJWs
As much as everyone loves to hate on buzzfeeds shitty clickbait, they've used the money from that to fund their hard journalism side y'all ought to have known that by now

Buzzfeed's actual journalism wing needs a new name to differentiate itself as something to be taken seriously.
Honestly I find the legitimization of clickbaity sources like BuzzFeed to be a bigger issue than fake news when it comes to preserving the integrity of journalism.

BuzzFeed has always been tabloid trash.
I didn't think anyone paid attention to Buzzfeed for anything more than their Tasty video series or their quizzes page tbh.
Isn't buzzfeed a pile of clickbait unoriginal content anyway ? Was there any reason to take them seriously in the first place ?
Isn't buzzfeed a pile of clickbait unoriginal content anyway ? Was there any reason to take them seriously in the first place ?
Them publishing a bunch of unverified memos seem like a good reason to take them seriously now. The whole shock is that a non-serious and 'safe' news-organisation like Buzzfeed has done something this serious and controversial.
oh now nobody likes buzzfeed?
They effectively gave the right ammo to write off all left wing press and justify it to themselves and their supporters.
Isn't buzzfeed a pile of clickbait unoriginal content anyway ? Was there any reason to take them seriously in the first place ?
There is a difference between buzzfeed and buzzfeed news. The former is clickbait, the latter actually does decent journalism.
oh now nobody likes buzzfeed?
Have people ever not? It's been a banned source here forever, as far I can recall. I know I've always cracked down on it, at any rate.
In my opinion while it is unverified as long as they say it's unverified they can post whatever they want.
this was a calculated move by buzzfeed. Even though the source is unvalidated people will believe it, and if they keep posting news like this then people will start to believe it regardless of its veracity
PBS newshour had someone from buzzfeed on fake news and their study
Remember when people thought the internet would help democracy and make us smarter?
Have people ever not? It's been a banned source here forever, as far I can recall. I know I've always cracked down on it, at any rate.
i know a number of people who don't spend much time on forums like this one who trust and believe in buzzfeed
Remember when people thought the internet would help democracy and make us smarter?
I've always said that the Internet brought us into the Information Age, but social media brought us into the Mis-Information Age.
I've always said that the Internet brought us into the Information Age, but social media brought us into the Mis-Information Age.
People believed news papers, but then they would believe the likes of the National inquirer too. Just some peopple will believe the dumbest of shit...
I think the important parts of the dossier are true, and Trump should be prevented from taking office. Period. End of.
I think the important parts of the dossier are true, and Trump should be prevented from taking office. Period. End of.
Do you have any proof of that? Does anyone?
Have people ever not? It's been a banned source here forever, as far I can recall. I know I've always cracked down on it, at any rate.
the thing is that they have a separate group known as "buzzfeed news" that actually has decent journalism. but thanks to their name and where they stemmed from, I understand why no one takes them too seriously. if they want to be a respectable news source, they need to first break off and get their own name, leave all the survey trash at buzzfeed.
People believed news papers, but then they would believe the likes of the National inquirer too. Just some peopple will believe the dumbest of shit...
The National Inquirer doesn't enable any Joe-blow to spread bullshit, though. Though it is morbidly fascinating that people have the means to access the bullshit, while also having the means to verify whether or not the bullshit has any merit whatsoever right at their fingertips, through the same outlet that they found the bullshit to begin with. For instance, conservative friend on Facebook shared this: [t]http://i.imgur.com/KiniURL.jpg[/t] Upon linking to the wikipedia article on this very hammer which presents the arguments that 1) the hammer is reminiscent of tools used in America during the 1800s, and 2) the hammer was likely lost in a crevice where concretion then took place, he then said "Anything is possible. I actually agree that it is probably from the 1800's and it was lost and mud encased it." (note the use of the word "probably")
I think the important parts of the dossier are true, and Trump should be prevented from taking office. Period. End of.
"I Think" does not translate to "It Is". Passing judgement without definitive, fact based evidence is stupid and wrong.
