It might be incorrectly reported as some "black thing" in a spur of racism, but even the article says that it is an existent problem.
It isn't a myth, even if it is rare it still happens and still is a problem.

But the article is talking about how even if it happens rarely, it isn't an emerging phenomenon or a rising threat - just pumped up by media lately due to slow news.

I am pretty sure most of the mainstream reports have in some way got their information from the prestigious WSHH organisation which has by far the furthest reaching and most accurate data and an extensive number of accounts of the act.

the phrase "it's becoming more popular" could just reflect the fact that it's trending in google searches from all the paranoid people looking it up due to the news
if anything the reports are likely to increase the number of incidents because at least one asshole out there's gonna hear about it now and think "this is the perfect excuse to sucker punch that dude I fuckin' hate and run off".
I don't feel like their is any racial connotation to it on either side, and anyone trying to paint the attackers as racists, or the people stirring it up as racists should stop injecting race into it for the sake of attention.
It is a (largely falsely) blown up story of dumb teenagers being stupid. There isn't anything more to it.
My main hope is that this media trend doesn't cause it to actually become a more prevalent thing.

Every point he TRIES to make (About 'Distorting the notion of God and Self') is absolute trash, but he gets SO close to actually making a correct jab when talking about MRIs and Chemical cocktails, but it's because we don't know enough yet, and that we still need to rely on standard therapy, because it's much more equipped to deal with PEOPLE as compared to their brains (I do not believe in mind-brain duality, but because we do not yet know many of the ways they 'connect' I am forced to use the definitions). it existed, at least in the south. and as far as i was sure it originated from boots who were too piss drunk that they thought everything was funny. last i checked there wasn't any racial things to it.
