• Ruling party of Japan wants to revise their American-made constitution; "public order comes before c
Last week the world remembered the end of the war in the Pacific, and Japan's surrender on what become known as V-J Day. But many Japanese have never really accepted the terms of that surrender, and especially the constitution forced on Japan by the Americans after the war. Now the ruling party says Japan needs to revise its constitution to boost the country's confidence and pride. Critics say the proposed revisions would be a major setback for Japanese democracy.
You have to listen to the broadcast in the link, it's radio. Fuck the Japanese nationalists.
So, they want feudalism again with peasants and shoguns?
on what become known as V-J Day.
:/
So, they want feudalism again with peasants and shoguns?
No, they just want to rewrite everything the Americans wrote so "foreign control" no longer exists. How they reword it is where the problems come from.
So, they want feudalism again with peasants and shoguns?
No no no. That was the other american one when we propped up the Emperor in the 1870s.
See, sometimes I'm like "Gosh, America really gets their fingers dipped into everything" (even though they kinda needed this after we decimated them) But it doesn't help when there are stupid decisions wanting to revert back in time to a more oppressive time by what I thought were rational, functional governments. (yes this happens in America too but the Tea Party has 0 chance of ever winning an election in our current system)

Again this basically boils down to "should a sovereign nation have the rights of one?" The point isn't that they want to rewrite it to allow for a radical form of government. The point is that they should have the choice to rewrite a 70 year old constitution imposed on them by a foreign power.

[editline]19th August 2013[/editline] That's the actual issue.
are these the same guys that want a full militarised state and want japan to convert its civilian nuclear program to a nuclear weapons program?
Even if it violates civil rights? [editline]19th August 2013[/editline] That's the actual issue.
No it isn't. Rewriting a constitution isn't causing civil rights violations. The WAY they WANT to rewrite it can cause civil rights violations. The entire point is that Japan has a constitution that's 70 years old and they should be able to modify it so they don't have to use retarded loopholes just to have a standing military (that still cannot do anything other then defend Japan)

The 'can't defend' (scary air quotes) is only one part of the problem
Even if it violates civil rights? [editline]19th August 2013[/editline] That's the actual issue.
News flash, every government will violate your rights in wartime. In the United States Habeas Corpus has been suspended. During the red scare the right to freedom of speech was also restricted. Not to mention internment camps during WW2.
Ok! It's their country it's their rules.
Ok! It's their country it's their rules.
Not while we're around.
It's a shame how purging foreign (usually American) influence usually means fucking over one's people, like it's the only idea they can come up with. The US civil rights record isn't great, would be nice if countries aimed to beat it and therefore embarrass them rather than regress.
If you even bothered to listen to the broadcast, they stated that the revised draft keeps the "won't participate in wars" part, meaning they'll still keep the 'can't do anything but defend'.
Well, that's a lie. They'll keep that in but use technicalities and tricky wording to ignore them entirely they've always done that. Like gambling being outlawed, it's illegal but slot machines and Pachinko are considered 'games' not gambling. DDH181, the Hyūga class is a fine example, Amphibious Assault ships are offensive ships, so even if it is nearly identical to a Amphib it's a 'DDH' a destroyer which is a multirole and possible defensive ship. The new Izumo class is capable of launching VTOL and STOL Aircraft like harriers, F-35s and V-22s. It may be an elaborate ruse but they stand no chance against the PLA and China's extremely aggressive behavior to it's neighbors.
Good for japan the US should butt out of japan by now, i think the 2 nukes and 70 years of western bullshit are enough of a lesson for japan
"never really accepted terms of surrender" uh what should they have nuked a couple more cities or what
Doesn't matter if what's coming next shittier. It'll be Japan's shit constitution, and not one forced upon them by some foreign nation. They've been doing pretty well so far with nationalist measures and pulled stuff we would never even think of (Islam is banned in Japan, fyi). Stop fiddling with other countries' internal politics. Edit : turns out Islam is not banned, scratch that
Well that's absolutely disgusting
No shit, but that's not our place to say what should and should not be done in a foreign country.
No shit, but that's not our place to say what should and should not be done in a foreign country.
Actually, do you have any source for Islam being banned in Japan? Because I've seen nothing other than the banning of some committees after the war because of their support for the Imperial government. There are also 30 or so mosques and nearly 100,000 Muslims in Japan. So
Bring back the daimyo and samurai.

I was told numerous times it was the case and according to google I'm not the only one who thought that way. Here are the (low) amount of muslims in Japan:
There are no governmental statistics on the number of Muslims in the country. The Islamic Center estimates there are approximately 100,000 to 110,000 Muslims of whom 10,000 are citizens.
http://www.state.gov/j/drl/rls/irf/religiousfreedom/index.htm?year=2012&dlid=208234#wrapper

Don't worry, my Reliable Source Finder 3000 will save the day http://www.stormfront.org/forum/t974911/ I uh I guess it's broken [editline]21st August 2013[/editline]
Yeah the only links I saw supporting that notion were from Stormfront so that set off the alarm right away.
quiet you

I hate my state.
