• Microsoft puts another Nail into the Killer Instinct Legacy, forces Kinect into the Mix
The inclusion of Kinect-based features in the Double Helix-developed fighting game Killer Instinct isn't just superficial, Microsoft revealed during the Killer Instinct panel at this year's Evo 2013 attended by IGN, as it's possible for the peripheral to help in local tournaments. The game uses Kinect to automatically detect who is playing and load their settings, said Microsoft creative director Adam Isgreen. The result, he says, is a simpler way to set up tournaments. "We want to have features to set up tournaments with your friends," he said. "Say there are eight of you and you just start sitting down. I know a lot of people are like, ah, the Kinect camera in the room, I'm scared! But the coolness of being able to sit down, the controller pairs itself to you when you pick it up. It knows your buttons. It knows how you like to play. It knows what characters you want to play. "You can just say Start, and go. It knows who you are in the tournament bracket, so it will just automatically do the matches correctly." Isgreen hints that additional features are on the horizon, including the streaming of Twitch games on Xbox One. While the company is yet to announce will be available for Killer Instinct, Isgreen suggests it will be incorporated.
Source. This has so many potentials to go horribly wrong, what are you doing Microsoft?
Not gonna lie, some of it sounds pretty cool. I personally would never be in a situation where I could use it though.
That's actually not THAT bad of an idea, it's not like it's forcing you to use the kinect when you're actually playing the game, this is just post-game organization done in a neat way. And nice sensational title.
One step closer to never having to manually log in

Imagine people in the crowd yelling commands like Xbox Off or the Kinect loading the wrong profile for a player. There is no way this can work on the professional level.

I'm not sure what you're making a fuss over, this is an awesome idea if they get it working how it is supposed to.

Spectators yelling and any unknown flaws in the new Kinetic can easily make this into a tournament nightmare. Imagine someone in the audience yelling 'Xbox Off', causing the match to end because the person they like is losing.

Microsoft is dumb yea but they aren't that dumb.
You can turn off voice commands and the camera. Do your research before posting an uneducated article in SH.
It still listens for the commands on and off, even when disabled. Microsoft already clarified that.
It still listens for the commands on and off, even when disabled. Microsoft already clarified that.
It listens for "Xbox On" when it is off, but it does not listen for "Xbox Off" if it is running a game. You can disable voice commands entirely in apps and games.
That actually sounds like a pretty cool feature it all comes down to how well it's done

Like I said before, having kinect come bundled with the console will allow game companies to expand its features knowing that everyone will have one connected.
Like I said before, having kinect come bundled with the console will allow game companies to expand its features knowing that everyone will have one connected.
Yeah such great features as knowing a controller is connected, knowing your heart rate, and knowing you're in the room. Woah, truly revolutionary.
Like I said before, having kinect come bundled with the console will allow game companies to expand its features knowing that everyone will have one connected.
I agree that the Kinect has potential, but this isn't anywhere near the best utilization of it. The Dance Central games are a much more sophisticated use of the technology than this is, and even that pales in comparison to what modders have done with the hardware. It would be nice for the Kinect to bring along something truly revolutionary, but I don't see it being used for much more than gimmicks for the foreseeable future.
Kinect is great for things that aren't games. You need to find a use for it outside of a game and then work that in in a way that isn't a gimmick.
