Professor Keon Jae Lee at the Korean Advanced Institute Of Science And Technology created a solid-state flexible battery that retains is energy level when folded, spindled, and or mildly mutilated. The battery could mean future ereaders and tablets could be paper thin and partially foldable, ushering in interesting new device designs.
These rechargeable lithium-ion batteries are actually printed on a thin film. Applying battery material to rollable displays has been a big problem for the gadget manufacturers thus far but this breakthrough could change the way we think about surfaces, screens, and case materials.
As you can see from the video, the thin film battery can be bent over and over again without reducing voltage output. Professor Lee expects this technology to be part of “next-generation fully flexible electronic systems” but there was no discussion of potential commercial adoption. I guess we’ll just have to wait for our EZ Roll Soft-Style iPods for another few years.[/quote]

How would a bendable tablet be of any use?
"Hey, let me just write that down... ah shit, anyone got a clipboard or something? This fucking tablet keeps bending."

who says it's for a tablet specificaly?

More likely a bendable phone. Then screen size can increase without making the phone too large to keep in your pocket.
Can we make omni-tools now?

I didn't just choose to bash tablets for the hell of it man. The article was what said that tablets could bend, not me.
I can see the apple press conference now
The iFold
Or something that velcroed to a sleeve or something.

Or better yet:

C string phone.

What the christ
They always say how you can bend it, but what happens if you actually fold it?

Probably break.

You can bend this like crazy but if you fold it, it will explode
Ah, battery science, constantly making advances in everything but the properties we actually need.

He was just making a simple joke and it was mentioned quickly in the article.
If it's light, it could have all sorts of damn possibilities.
Next up: flexible solar panels that actually work

trade mark that before they make it so you can sell them the name and make millions

It would be perfect for nude beaches~
I can see it now.
Waterproof c-string phone.
"As wet as the ocean"
It doesn't mean the whole device can be bendable, but it will mean things can be alot smaller.
Wrap the battery around the outer edge of the casing of a phone for instance, instead of a block in the back.

That way when you drop it on asphalt it gets punctured and combusts lol.

You could have a tablet that folds in half like a book.

Also this too.

I'm glad the video in OP said that the blue LED was on. I wouldn't have figured otherwise.
That poor blue LED
They didn't even put a resistor in that circuit. It's probably dead now.

You do know that they make 5v blue LEDs right?
