I'm unemployed and am going to lose the roof over me in a month.

Right.
I really wanted to get into this. As if being socially excluded from my surroundings was not harmful enough.
Anyways, back on August 15 while I was halfway through my two weeks planned vacation I was called into the office by my boss. He said that because of poor sales he would be closing down the online sales division which I ran (and was the manager of, even though it paid me minimum wage) and he was letting me go.
I immediately applied for Employment Insurance and had all that necessary filed paperwork completed in several days, I printed off a stack of resumes and got hold of my record of employment. At home I stopped all luxury spending and stopped work on my shop. It meant that even after living in the house for four months I was going to have to wait even longer to unpack. I also took the $1000 cash I had stored in my safe and deposited it all. It looks like I will not be returning to Japan again.
Now here I am a month and a half and 28 (reapplications not included but would add another 15 to that number) written and electronically submitted job applications later and I'm still nowhere near landing a job short of a costco seasonal position which would be a disaster as it would leave me off right when school ended and the market is flooded with shits looking for a job. Even with saving money, My bank balance is $622 dollars. That will pay one more month's rent ($433) plus all bills ($70). It will not however pay my car insurance ($200) so I'll have to get a loan from my parents, who I already owe $700.
I ahve applied at all the major stores (wal-mart, staples, Best Buy and various major canadian supermarkets) and all of the joe job places (gas stations and fast food) and to date have received one callback and that was Costco offering me seasonal for five hours a day, five days a week.
I also searched through our local Craigslist for permanent full time jobs as well as I searched through the Canadian Job Bank. The number problem I was finding was that there were jobs I wanted to do but because I didn't have three years experience. certification in x and y, or a diploma in course Z I was not eligable. Criagslist also yielded my second (and only other) callback and interview and that one failed with the guy saying "We like you. You seem to know what you are doing...but the guy who used to be doing this before he was deported seemed to be a bit more experienced and we think you aren't good enough to replace him".
So here I am in a state where I'm rationing food and gas and with enough money left to survive in Vancouver for one mor month. Once the bills for November are paid and if I don't have a job, It's game over and I'll have to pack up and move everything back to my parents place four hours away in the mountains. Of course that ssumes I don't snap first.
At the same time, me breaking the lease on the apartment means my two other roommates will also lose the place and they won't be happy about moving either and I really don't want to go home knowing I fucked over two other people in the process.
I'm out of ideas now and almost out of time. The recent job fairs were to be one of my last hopes but they were brickwalled by everyone wanting experience I simply do not have and can not get because I can not afford a post-secondary education.
Before I wave the white flag and spend the next god knows how many years in my parents basement I would at least like to fire a flare off and see if Facepunch can help.
Shit sucks man.
Sell all those old PCs you have.
tell your room mates that you cant pay rent for this month and they should pay it.

You should relax since you have a place to fall back on. Being calm will help you figure out how to fix this, too.
Start cleaning some houses.
That's what my mom did when she ran out of options.....either that or you move in with your parents.
Have you considered selling yourself on the streets?
But seriously, at least if things get to bad you have your parents as a safety net. It's better being homeless.
Hope everything works out for you bro.
under the table paying jobs, mips
landscaping/roofing/sheetrock/weed dealing
or get a cheaper apartment
Don't give up, you can still try and apply for more jobs, and as Zeke said, you at least have a place where you can go to even if all else fails.
I wish you the best of luck in getting a job and managing to stay in Vancouver, bro.
Believe me, it's not that bad. I know because even if I live in a totally different country, I was in a worse situation that yours a year and a half ago. You can at least crash at your parents' house. Don't EVER lose hope, and keep applying to jobs, spam them with your resume. It really doesn't matter at how many jobs you applied to, you only need one to call you back, so keep doing it like crazy. Hundreds if you have to. The more places you submit your resume to, the higher the chances are you'll be called back.
If the situation gets desperate, take whatever job you can. Even the 5 hours a day job at Costco. You can continue to look for a decent job while having a shitty job. Ask for some more money from your parents, they're your parents, not a bank, and will probably continue to help you even if you still owe them money. Consider moving somewhere else, where the rent is cheaper. Screw your roommates if you really have to. Sell something valuable. Desperate times require desperate measures. Do whatever you can, just don't be passive.
Call all your friends and acquaintances. Ask them about job openings at their workplace, ask them if they can recommend you for some job. Use your social network (your real social network, although Facebook can help, too), most good jobs are found through friends and acquaintances, at least this is how it works in my country.
Spend all your waking hours searching for a job. Cut the crap, such as gaming and / or watching TV. Submit your resume to headhunting companies, email is free. Learn how to create a good resume, it's more challenging than it seems, but there are countless tutorials online that can help you. Apply to jobs using personalized letters of intent, where possible. Boast a little bit about your knowledge and experience. Don't lie, just market your skills better. Go to your previous employers and ask for letters of recommendation and resume references.
This is all I can think right now. Don't lose your calm and keep at it. It's the only way you'll get through this.
Good luck, mate.

Take that job and start re-applying to places once you have it. It's so much easier getting a job when you are already employed for some reason. It's like putting down "employed at ___" on your job application is the magical secret words to finding a job.
Plus it's money for the short term which is incredibly important.
I'll let you move into my house if you'll wear a skirt and kitty ears, and let me ride you around my house on your back 'til I get bored.
Pm me a paypal address, I'll give you some money (Not much as I don't have loads to spare) for all the enjoyable threads you've made.

Herresy, most of those computers are completely irriplacable and he will most likely never see another again. I wouldn't.

I really wish I could help out MIPS, you seem like a really cool guy.
Do you really need that car? As far as I know having a car hurts the wallet a lot.
Hey i'm looking for a job right now in Vancouver too. Shit's impossible.
Good luck, though.
I hope your okay. I also hope you don't get banned because the mods are assholes when it comes to this sort of thing.

Seriously, if you can bike around your town and still get where you need to, ditch the car and get a decent comfy bike. You'll save lods e dosh on repairs and gas.
OP, what are your job skills? did you ever go to college?
don't you have an SGI workstation laying around doing almost nothing? Sell it.
Also another thing to think about is brush picking. It is the best brush picking season. I just got hired at a corporation that makes items for brush and in my small town of less than 20k people, they have hired at least 1000 until December. These guys buy it from private contractors who go out with their own crew to pick it. So maybe make some connections with people who do that. It's tough work, and will hurt your back, but you will get paid, and it can technically be done year round.

It's also apple harvest season, so if you know of any orchards nearby you could get hired to pick apples as well.
Find a place to chill, like the park. Whenever I'm mad, I.go to my local park, sometimes to my friends house since he hosts lan parties every night. Also, access your friends and family. They will give you a place to crash if shit really happens.
If all fails go be a tree planter, my ex-girlfriends sister did it. It's just a giant party and easy living, it's in BC too.
Be glad you have family to fall back on, some people don't even have that.
If you mind me asking how old are you OP? if you are young then you have loads of time to rebuild - Take it a step at a time. And why can't your room mates pay the bills? if you are working that hard to get a roof over your head then what are they doing?
do some crazy desperate shit and get involved with the mafia. barely survive then write a book about it. the book will be awesome and it'll get a movie deal. direct and star as yourself in the movie. ?????? profit!
but seriously. shit man, not much i can help you with there.
I thought we banned these kind of threads after everyone was scammed by that one fag that we tracked down in a matter of hours.
I have no school this year and my dad wants me to work. I look at countless positions and am incredibly picky.
I feel bad about being picky when someone else is having a tough time.
I thought we banned these kind of threads after everyone was scammed by that one fag that we tracked down in a matter of hours.
That guy who used the 30$ he got to "buy a new computer"?
