The appearance of Valve’s Gabe Newell on the inaugral Seven Day Cooldown podcast seems to have generated all the headlines in the world. Apple’s new boss didn’t really visit Valve, DOTA2 will use a brand new kind of free-to-play and, now, why ‘Ricochet 2′ has been so long coming. There is, I’m afraid, absolutely no way that ‘Ricochet 2′ is a veiled term for another game rather than a sequel to weirdo Tron-like jumpy multiplayer mod Ricochet. And doubly-definitely not a game that might have a ‘Half’ in the title. No sirree. When Gabe says stuff like “We end up changing our minds as we’re going through and developing stuff, so as we’re thinking through the giant story arc which is Ricochet 2, you might get to a point where you’re saying something is surprising us in a positive way and something is surprising us in a negative way, and, you know, we’d like to be super-transparent about the future of Ricochet 2″ he really, definitely, absolutely, truly means a sequel to Valve’s near-forgotten HL1 mod, and definitely, absolutely, truly not the long and torturous wait for a new HL title. Newell claims the reason for the five-year silence on the next installment of Ricochet is not aloof dismissal of fans desires, but an earnest fear that “we always have this problem that when we talk about things too far in advance. The problem is, we think that the twists and turns that we’re going through would probably drive people more crazy than just being silent about it, until we can be very crisp about what’s happening next.” That’s all that’s let slip, aside from that “Everyone who was working on Ricochet 2 continues to work on Ricochet 2.“ While this is scant information and even consolation for those who’s been hammering fruitlessly on the doors of Valve’s fortress of silence for a half-decade, it is worth observing it in the light of the employee training manual that also slipped onto the webernets this week. That goes into far more detail about the developer’s profound dedication to doing projects right and based upon the open creative input of everyone involved rather than to meet deadlines, and how that’s a perk of remaining entirely independent and more than a little wealthy.
http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012/04/23/gabe-on-ricochet-2-delay-but-he-doesnt-mean-ricochet/
So basically they don't want to hype up Ricochet 2 because it might turn out like Brotherhood of arms did?
Ricochet 2 would be awesome, they could finally fill that shelf with all the awards they'll get.
I feel like there's something more to this story that I can't quite put my finger on...
Surely I can't be the only one who has been craving for another Ricochet, the first one was great I really hope the second one lives up to expectations. [editline]23rd April 2012[/editline]
I feel like there's something more to this story that I can't quite put my finger on...
There's hidden messages of HL3 oh god why can I just feel there will be an arg with HL3 where Ricochet will be involved.
cant wait for recochet 2 i heard they're adding the color green to it
Since a lot of employees don't exactly work on one thing specifically some people could split off and form a small group and work on Ricochet 2 concepts, large teams will be on DOTA 2, CS:GO, Half Life while the stragglers would probably help around everywhere or work in even smaller teams on their on projects, Ricochet 2, despite the satirical remarks it gets ever week, may still have potential to some employees and they'll work on that.
Oh yes, Rich-Rocket 2 ! I think I played rick'o'sheet once at a LAN party 8 years ago or so
Veiled ep 3 references aside, nobody is gonna really care about Ep3 when it comes out. Lots of people will buy it at first to see how it ends, but everyone who was really enthralled with the first four games is now going to be lukewarm because it's been like FIVE FUCKING YEARS. Soon as someone posts the ending on the internet, it'll be over, and so will a good portion of the sales.
You know, I can actually see that one coming. It's just something they would do, develop this whole game, announce it, with small, fun singleplayer campaing. And after you beat that, you get to download HL3 :v:

[sp]Also, 6 years between HL and HL2[/sp]
Yeah, No.
Brick'o'shit 2 will probably come with HL3 ARG. Would be cool if they developed the principles of the mod further in secret.
This thread is going to explode as the day goes on.
Aw hell yeah, some Ricochet 2 up in this bitch soon. Loved that back when I used to play it, tossin' disks and shit all over.
ricochet is the only game where i'd accept multi colored explosions as an ending
Why why why do they have to call it Riccochet 2? Until they name it as EP3/HL3 there is still the possibility it's not
I for one want ricochet 2 more than ep3. Gordon freeman is a wuss compared to the silent hero in ricochet.
I feel like there's something more to this story that I can't quite put my finger on...
HL3 cancelled due to Gordon's voice actor dying. Ricochet 2 release next Christmas.
I am so angry right now. So angry i am just gonna, Oh man ill just , If they don't i'll, AHHHHHHHHHHH They can't ignore this any longer. I am growing tired of these anouncements of games that shouldnt be revived cause as we all know ricochet was terrible.
Pretty much what they are saying is "We haven't made our mind up yet, we are afraid if we release any details we will not be able to change it" So at least after 5 years they "Confirmed" That there is work going on new HL Implement.
“Everyone who was working on Ricochet 2 continues to work on Ricochet 2.“ Could imply that noone was working on it to begin with, huh
What if he does mean Ricochet?
I am sure he's implying the release of the next Day of Defeat.

Ricochet 2 is just code for Half Life 3. Read the article next time.
Does anybody else understand gabe better when he says stuff like this now that there handbook is on the internet?
oh god why can I just feel there will be an arg with HL3 where Ricochet will be involved.
Ricochet updated -??? -Updated Localization Files
Gabe is such a fucking tease.
Ricochet 2 is the project name for Left 4 Dead 3.
“Everyone who was working on Ricochet 2 continues to work on Ricochet 2.“ Could imply that noone was working on it to begin with, huh
How can nothing work though? 'Everyone' implies at least someone.
