Paramount Pictures is launching a cinematic universe around its blockbuster Transformers property that will be overseen by Oscar-winning screenwriter Akiva Goldsman, Deadline reports. It is stated that the Transformers Franchise will follow a Cinematic Universe, very much like the current Marvel, DC and Star Wars franchises. The series is said to have Sequels as well as Spin-offs. Mr. Goldsman has worked on famous scripts such as A Beautiful Mind, The Da Vinci Code and I Am Legend as well as the infamous Batman & Robin. "Taking a page from Fox’s incubation of three Avatar sequels and what Disney is doing to revive Star Wars with a sequels and spinoffs, the studio is negotiating with Akiva Goldsman to work with franchise director Michael Bay, exec producer Steven Spielberg and producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura to organize a “writer’s room” that will incubate ideas for a potential multi-part Transformers sequel, and come up with potential spinoff films based on the billion-dollar franchise culled from the Hasbro toy line." says Deadline. "The Transformers expansion signals that Paramount is serious about competing with its studio peers when it comes to broadening big franchise properties." says TheWrap.
So...yeah. The guy who wrote A Winter's Tale, Batman and Robin, and Lost in Space is planning sequels and spin-offs with Spielberg, Bay, and Lorenzo di Bonaventura in a "writer's room." No word if Bay will return to direct. Anyone else scared, overjoyed, and/or pissed off on what happens in the next TF films? I could care less they are popcorn flicks and forget about the plot's in all of them but do what they are men't to aka kill time. but if they could turn the into something worth caring for I am all for it.
I wouldn't have been too excited to see them, but if Goldsman is working on the script, I will never want to see them.

They could do a prequel on Cybertron, finish the story with Unicron and the Quintessons, or spin off stuff like side NEST missions with Ironhide.
So a bad franchise is going to get worse?
I wouldn't have been too excited to see them, but if Goldsman is working on the script, I will never want to see them.
I liked the first, but it just gotten worse after ROTF. If Goldsman is writing for the next films, I'm done. This is coming from someone who's honestly been holding his breath too much after each film hoping for them to get better AND a big TF fan.
I mean, compared to most other non-big comic adaptations, Transformers is probably one of the most deserving of a "shared cinematic universe" considering how big its mythos is, but eww. Ewww. Ewwwwwww.
Five years from now, 80% of movies will be made up of the same five or six "cinematic universes". Universii?
What, are movies going to be taking their story tips from comics now?
They could do a prequel on Cybertron, finish the story with Unicron and the Quintessons, or spin off stuff like side NEST missions with Ironhide.
brilliant, let's take the TF movie aesthetic and make a movie on cybertron so you REALLY can't see anything
brilliant, let's take the TF movie aesthetic and make a movie on cybertron so you REALLY can't see anything
It can always change. Cybertron was depicted differently in the 1st and 3rd movies.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe was,a bold experiment that paid off. The DCCU is a logical competitor. But when we get to Transformers and Robin Hood and Universal Monsters its time to stop.
So whens the Avengers type crossover with Optimus Prime and the funky bunch vs. Jason? I swear to god, shit you not, theres a character who's in both Transformers 1 and the F13 reboot, same name, same actor, Michael Bay and the actor confirmed it.
Transformers Cinematic Universe, Universal Monsters Cinematic Universe, Ghostbusters Cinematic Universe... Boy, I can't wait for the American Ninja Cinematic Universe
Think about this, they actually managed to make giant robots fighting really boring. That's a feat.

Ewww. Ewwwwwww.
My guess is that they're going to go through with TF5 and 6 as planned in 2015(6?) and 2017(TBD if Bay's still directing), and that the spinoffs are going to be unrelated to Bay's work ie an IDW film adaptation directed by <insert director here> or Beast Wars on the big screen. I'm crossing my fingers that these spinoffs turn out better than the original Bay material.
IMO I liked the first and second movie, plus all the stuff from my childhood before but after that it's just shit.
Nah, still going to prefer the 1986 movie over the 50 million Transformers movies and spinoffs that are about to happen.
Remove caring about like 5 humans and having them as main characters and I think you could make some good Transformer movies, about the robots.... who are robots.
Why does it seem like "cinematic universe" is a buzzword all of a sudden?
brilliant, let's take the TF movie aesthetic and make a movie on cybertron so you REALLY can't see anything
Would filming in 48fps help at all?
The first movie was enough. Some of you people are still going to see these movies, STOP IT.
Why does it seem like "cinematic universe" is a buzzword all of a sudden?
Because Disney is making more money off Marvel than several other studios put together.
I hate how all these studios are thinking about setting up cinematic universes. They ruin the individual movies
"Taking a page from Fox’s incubation of three Avatar sequels
what sequels? avatar came out in 2010, its 4 years later and he's still fleshing out the script for the second one. i wouldn't even call a direct sequel-rebootquel (somehow everybody who died is comming back) to be a connected universe
This is gonna suck so hard, it'll create a black hole
