As if this wasn't enough (after 75% off, over $100 of DLCs sheesh)
Where did they go so wrong?

For a F2P game this would be bordering 'shitty'. A paid game? Hell no.
The real heist is from our own wallets.
I regret ever buying it. It's a cool concept but IMO they fucked it up and made it really not fun.
No. No. God, I hope not. Never. No.
It fits my opinion on buying Payday 2 so well now. Thanks for saving my wallet, Overkill.
This is 100% unacceptable.
Nice, I was even considering picking this up. Good to know the devs are shitheads before I gave them my money.
I mean it's still a fun as shit game lol
Is this the first game to copy the TF2 style of opening a random drop "box" with a "key" you have to pay for?
It's amazing how quickly this game turned around from being a decent coop shooter to a load of shit.
Just way to much DLC. Yeah it's cheap but I can't even keep up with it any more. It puts me off wanting to jump back in the game. This is just another (large) nail in the coffin.
I love the game. I have the 2014 thingy that you get with every DLC. But then I realized that it had a DLC for ANYTHING (with some free updates ofc). So I stopped playing that from there. Now this really is the last hit. RIP Overkill.
This is seriously the most heated I've ever been over games. It's fucking garbage that there are companies that are perfectly okay with raking every single penny out of their customers this way. It's disgusting and insulting to everyone that buys the product.
In what fucking world does it sound okay to pay $20 for a game, then sink over a HUNDRED DOLLARS in DLC. Then tack on bullshit microtransactions that if, heaven forbid, you don't own a DLC have a chance of dropping an item that you can't use. That is fucking disgusting, insulting, and an all around fucking spit-in-the-eye of all of their customers.
I'll also call that if, and that's a big fucking IF, they say anything about this, it'll be flaccidly trying to justify pulling every fucking penny out of your pocket.
Fuck you Overkill.
I'm so fucking glad this game was gifted to me.
Fuck Overkill, fuck them very hard.
I've always kind of wanted to like Payday 2. I played a bit of it near the start of the year and thought it could be really fun to get a crew of 4 together. But when the dlc started rolling out and never seemed to stop I started to lose my interest.
This is the final nail in the coffin.
I never understood the appeal to this game beyond the whole "cops and robbers" theme which was the only reason I ever picked it up. Everything is locked behind an in-game paywall, and basically requires you to grind your fucking ass off as if it were a F2P game.
Welp, guess I won't be returning to this game other then not having people to play this with for a year or two now.
The only thing I still like about this game is the score.
We must be out of touch of reality, I mean really, the game got THOUSANDS of positive user reviews after this happened, maybe people like this?
I am baffled.

all the top reviews are negative at least
all the top reviews are negative at least
Yes but every minute tens of new positive ones are made, soon the thing will change from Very Positive to Overwhelmingly Positive.

But before it was at 96%, now it's at 87%? I don't see a huge influx of new positive reviews, and a few of them are ironic, for some reason (isn't that counter-productive? oh well).
SkeleRipper: Overkill just Overkilled Payday 2
SkeleRipper: Before I get into the nitty gritty, here's the lowdown.
SkeleRipper: The game, standard edition, is 20 bux.
SkeleRipper: 20 bux, then over a HUNDRED DOLLARS IN DLC.
SkeleRipper: Lets say you own all of it, like a faithful customer.
SkeleRipper: You're playing the game and you get to the end of a big ass heist. You're about to get your loot when the card flips...
SkeleRipper: You get....a safe?
SkeleRipper: "Oh, neat!" You think to yourself, "Safes usually have good stuff! How do I open-"
SkeleRipper: Then you hear it, in the distance. A resonating vibrato tone.
SkeleRipper: It gets louder, with thundering footsteps shaking your entire household. You gaze out your window and see a giant ass, catastrophically trampling every house in it's way. The tone? An impossibly loud, unending fart.
SkeleRipper: Tattoo'd across the titanic butt's cheeks? "TWO DOLLARS TO BUY DRILL FOR SAFE"
SkeleRipper: It leans down, planting it's dark, unfeasibly smelly rectal opening against your window, leaving a stain that'll never go away. With tears, you open your window and stuff your wallet into the hole, trying to appease your buttlord.
SkeleRipper: It spits out a drill, covered in all manner of horrid bodily fluids. You apply it to the safe and receive...
SkeleRipper: ...a weapon's skin.
SkeleRipper: ...for a weapon you HOPEFULLY have the DLC for.
yeah fuck this game and it's lead dev
Why don't they just make Pay Day 3?
Where did they go so wrong?
Mammon shall consume all! Tis the base nature of capitalism.
pretty ironic how the game is about robbery
Why don't they just make Pay Day 3?
I guess they figure they don't have to. They made us their whales. People, including myself, lined up to buy DLC, even when we didn't really think we'd use it. It was only recently that I stopped taking it and said no, I'm not going to buy your tacky ninja weapons. They kept pushing support because Payday 2 is more profitable than they seem to think a Payday 3 would be, not to mention they use it to fund their other projects. I'd wager these microtransactions are an attempt to push the game's profit span even further without having to directly support it, but I don't think that will work. L4D type games just don't offer the replayability that, ironically, are supposed to be their main selling point. Payday through it's quality makes it last longer than L4D, but even it gets stale and repetitive. CS:GO and TF2 don't get repetitive it seems for years longer than L4D type games, presumably because they're competitive. Support keeps people coming back. But all I want is more heists and new features, but Overkill can just make some weapons and charge near the same price, so they do that instead. With microtransactions, once Payday 2 finally stops being supported, I reckon they hope the money source will keep thriving off the skins market. Many people seem to 'play' CS:GO and never actually do anything but gamble for skins. I guess they're hoping that whether or not people even play it, once support ends, people still keep playing the skins market and they keep profiting. And hey, what new content takes less effort than putting out some textures?
It's kind of depressing. Somewhere along the way they got deluded and now they see us as money instead of fans.
