And yet he still decides to preach religion. A bit of an oxymoron isn't it.
Unless he's one of those guys who stick to religion solely for community, morals and so on.

Well his point is that people should be allowed to believe whatever they want personally, but that doesn't mean we should be teaching pseudoscience in schools. Its like saying that we should be teaching kids that the Earth is flat, even though both there is evidence to the contrary and no valid evidence to support the claim.

It's like you completely and entirely missed the point.
Let me recap it so that even you can understand it:
He said that while everyone can believe what they want, forcing down your belief someone else's throat is definitely wrong. And doing so by manipulating the education of children is super wrong.
There are actually a lot of down-to-earth Priests like the guy above.
My old Priest use to explain how evolution & Genesis could walk hand-in-hand, as he would suggest that the original Hebrew was very general and wasn't as specific as the writing is today. Likewise, one of the Priests in my Church is a gay rights advocate, and our Church also has a site for its gay members, which is run by an ordained priest.
Unfortunately, a lot of the progressive priests are overshadowed by conservative priests & ministers. But there's still a good deal of them out there, just like with any social group.
