I've got website hosting, but where and how should I start?

I've got the hosting, the domain and everything is ready to go except what the fuck I should work on doing with it
Heres a little breakdown of what I get..
13000 MBs of Disk Space
Unlimited Bandwidth
Unlimited Email Addresses
Unlimited Databases
Shitload of 'auto-installer scripts' (Joomla, phpBB, Mambo, Wordpress ect..)
The domain is http://www.ctrlaltelite.co.uk at the moment, it's only a blank joomla canvas as I was just messing around with the settings and shit
At this point - I am thinking of having a type of gaming community but then again with so many around I think it wouldn't take off, who knows?
With free portals/cms like Joomla, I have no experience what-so-ever only really with forums - I would like to have a vBulliten but I am not paying that much for a licence unless I know that it will be worth doing
So I have a mind block on where I should go with this but it's something i've always wanted to do and show some ability.. would it be better to start up a flash games website?
What's the best portal/cms to use? are they worth using? whats the best way to start things up? advertising?
So many things to think about but where to start and what will the content of the website be..
Ctrl Alt Elite, wow...
vBulletin's CMS system is nice to use, but others do the job as well. Wordpress is easy to use and Joomla us up there too... I'd go with any of those (there are definitely more, and some arguably better ones, but these are the best ones I can think of). Advertising is key for a site, but make sure it's ready to go into the market of whatever you're doing first. Advertising a blank page isnt the best idea, so make sure you:
a) Know what you're doing with the site (gaming community? Does it have a forum, multiple pages, etc? If so, create them and establish some detail)
b) Make sure to inspect/investigate competition in the market to see what you're up against, and to also learn from them and see what ideas work and what ideas don't
c) Use reliable advertising pathways - Google Adwords, for examples
d) IMPORTANT: When starting up a venture, or website, doing it alone is key to start. Once you feel like you're ready to actually market the site, and gain members, see if you can establish a panel of people, or a Board behind you. Having multiple persons with different amounts of experience in fields is a great way to really capture the essence of your market. By incorporating the various ideas and proposals, you'll be able to make your website more successful.
If you need anything else, feel free to hit me up with a PM. Good luck!
Make it a Valve games hentai website.
Pr0n.
You should be sure about what you're going to do before you set up the website. This is gonna lead you nowhere.

Very much appriciated for your input, I will keep it in mind - I've been looking alot at vBulletin and the majority of successful communitys do use vBulletin, I don't think i've ever seen one that uses something like phpBB and that really puts me off using something like phpBB
If I did decide to go with Joomla, they've recently launched 6.0 which is what I have currently on there at the moment - Being honest, once I have everything laid out and ready to go - I want something that is simple to post content without much hassle and shit but I'm not sure if Joomla is the way to go if I wanted something like that
ctl alt elite sounds like one of those counter strike clans

Most of them however probably started on something smaller and then migrated to vBulletin. No point in buying software for a project with an uncertain future.
I would also recommend MyBB instead of phpBB.

Definitely possible. It's good to use something like it at first, but try to customize it enough so you have your own defined image from it, while still using a simple system.

Originally I was going to use it for personal use such as an online CV, picture hosting and any other reasons why I would use it but I feel like I should go a bit further than just something for myself

It is funny you said that actually, I once did have a counter strike clan called Ctrl + Alt + Elite back in the 1.6 days but I guess, I just took the name with me
I did the same thing, and been trying to figure out what to do with it. Thinking about using it for a Gmod Community.

Web-comics.
Make it a center for interesting/relevant news articles and people's comments on them.
Ran a pixelart community in Dutch for a while, until the fuckers started to use to much bandwidth.
AKA find something people want and isn't there and are willing to visit or use.
Well, I finished it - http://ctrlaltelite.co.uk/index/
If you have any suggestions or feedback, please feel free to share

Well shit..
make some homemade porn and put it on there
Might want to ask the web development sub-forum, but yeah don't do gaming news or anyhting like that. You'd need lots of dedicated people helping you with that if you wanted to compete with kotaku, joystiq, ign, etc.
Find a niche
