• ~$900 to spend. How'd I do?

A friend and I are building identical computers together, and I picked out a sub-1k build. I'm happy with it, but someone might know more than I and I wanted to verify the solidity of the build. Here's the wishlist from Newegg. We're running to a local computer store (Microcenter) to pick up some parts today; the case, memory, and probably PSU. This computer was built with Crossfire in mind, as we both plan on picking up another R9 270 around Black Friday. The only thing I was disappointed in was the locked multiplier on the CPU, but I think that with the 0.4Ghz boost we should be fine.
You're wasting your money with the haf 912 and those crappy fans. Trust me, I have it and the 140mm and they're garbage. Xfing 270s is a complete waste as well. Always buy one single more powerful card over 2 weaker cards. Also the z97 is useless with a locked processor. Do you have to get everything form microcenter? I would just get the cpu from there. That build looks nice. I'm not going to need the R9 290 though. The 270 is currently a nice upgrade from my HD6850, but if since I've shaved off some dosh from other parts I will probably end up getting the 280. Also I had no idea that the unlocked CPU was cheaper at Microcenter -- that's amazing.
Why would you make a build with a weaker gpu for the same price lol?
Why would you make a build with a weaker gpu for the same price lol?
Because it's not the same price? This XFX 280 is $150 cheaper, and I can get one with a better cooling system for $120 cheaper.
They're both $900, though I guess if you don't do rebates it's not, but you'll get $90 back from rebates.
Ever since I failed to receive 2 MIR's I've stopped buying things based on them..lost about $50 in the process (Buy the $25 more expensive part, receive $40 rebate, save $15...or not). Definitely going with the 4670k, and I'll consider switching up the case. Probs going with a cheaper motherboard too.
It's literally illegal for them to not send you the money. http://consumer.georgia.gov/consumer-topics/rebates I've personally never had any problems with rebates, you just have to make sure to include the rebate paper signed, the invoice, the upc code, and whatever else they ask of you. If you're buying from a well known brand there's very little chance you won't get the rebate if you do everything right. The 280 or 280x is still a great gpu either way.
Thanks! I didn't go with the 280x because I'm very comfortable OC'ing my 280, especially if I can guarantee direct airflow onto the card and good circulation in the case. Thanks again for the advice, yo.
