This has been happening for a while now and I have had just about enough of it.
For some reason when I sign on to my hotmail account in ubuntu, hotmail thinks that I am on a mobile phone and gives me the mobile version of the page.
I just upgraded to 10.10 and thought that might solve the problem but still it persists.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
Thanks in advance.
Firefox? Get user agent switcher, add a new user agent saying Firefox Windows NT 6.0 or something, and it will show the regular page.
Hmmm, doesn’t seem to be working.
All it does is make the text go further across the screen.
Any other ideas?

Well, it appears to be a problem with firefox.
I just installed Chromium and it works fine.

I think I will just use chrome from now on, thanks for the help anyway.
the same happened to me in arch, I changed to a Windows useragent and suddenly shit works
Gee wizz, a Microsoft-owned email service thinks Linux is a lesser operating system, what a suprise.

Yeah, I was just going to mention that.
It isnt a huge coincidence that a microsoft email service mistook one of linux's many versions as a mobile system.
Or it's just trying to make linux look bad to the end-users. Just a bit of FUD.

Alright, chill the fuck out.
But that still doesn't explain why it was only happening in firefox because chrome displays the page fine.
I'd say to file this in to the design flaw for Microsoft that every unrecognized user agent is a mobile OS.

Thank you so much... I've been wanting a solution to this as well. Not only am I allowed back into my regular hotmail account, It also seemed to fix my Facebook chat too! I have it set to Internet Explorer 8. I just wish it would remember my setting, because when I restart firefox, I have to switch it back manually, and it's getting quite annoying. :/
I think the real question is, you're computer literate enough to install ubuntu, why are you still using hotmail? It's shite. But I had no idea firefox had a useragent switcher addon, that might come in useful someday.

My main email is still my yahoo account. I don't need to change my email just because something new comes along. I also have a hotmail account for Windows Live Messenger, as well as a Gmail account for business purposes. Everything else goes through my yahoo account I made at 14. I'm 27 and a half now. I've loved my yahoo mail (Classic) and refuse yahoo's horrible "upgrades" because they make it look so cluttered and ugly. Simplicity and ease of use keep me coming back. That, and I have about almost 1,000 emails saved in it that I really can't be asked to forward to my other accounts, it would be pointless.
At least you don't use AOL as your primary email.

I fix computers for a living, and I come across those more often than you'd think... >_> With the full blown AOL *EVERYTHING* installed. -_-
I use @mbnet.fi
I order a magazine and they give out 5 free emails per subscription.
Though I have it linked up so GMail fetches mail through POP3 and then I just read on GMail.
POP3 isn't "in" anymore.
Anybody who is anybody uses IMAP.
I use several gmail accounts that all forward their mail to a main gmail account. From there I can send/reply to email from any of my other accounts.

People still use AOL? Jesus fucking christ.
The best thing to do is just use your own domain for email.
It costs $10 a year and you aren't tied down to any provider. Just change your MX records if you want to switch.
I've used my own domain since 2007 and I've had no problems whatsoever.
What domain? You seem to be experienced with the subject.
Oh, I know. I own my own domain. I was just curious to know what domain he personally owned.
Well, mostly. Basically what he's getting at is that you should have your own domain for e-mail instead of relying on public and popular mail services like Hotmail and GMail.
That said, you can still use your own domain and rely on services like Gmail or Windows Live.
Personally, I have my domain set up with Google Apps.
I've been wanting to run my own mailserver on my nikomo.eu domain but every time I have a go, something just fucks up and it doesn't work. It's a huge problem that I don't fully understand how the mail system works after the part where I send my mail to the server.
Anyone got any guides or something for Debian?
My VPS came with Sendmail preconfigured for just SMTP. It's cool.
Yeah so I can't receive email, but I can have my website send them out. And I have DenyHosts email every time some dweeb gets himself added to hosts.deny which is kind of spamming my inbox.
