Ukraine outbreak brings polio back to Europe, WHO says Via Reuters ____________________
Two children in southwestern Ukraine have been paralyzed by polio, the first outbreak of the disease in Europe since 2010, the World Health Organization said on Wednesday, in a setback for a global eradication campaign. The WHO said Ukraine had been at particular risk of an outbreak because of inadequate vaccination coverage. In 2014, only 50 percent of children were fully immunized against polio and other preventable diseases, it said. The risk of further spread within the country is high, although the threat to nearby Romania, Poland, Hungary and Slovakia is low, a WHO statement said. There is no cure for polio, which attacks the nervous system and can cause irreversible paralysis within hours of infection. It mainly affects young children in areas with poor sanitation. A global vaccination campaign has largely stamped out the virus, and only Pakistan and Afghanistan have reported cases of wild polio virus this year. Madagascar and Nigeria have suffered vaccine-derived outbreaks, like Ukraine.
Why, Ukraine... why? This is so damn worrying.
Goddamit not again with this.
Goddamit not again with this.
Better spread the word, man... if you know of someone who *doesn't* vaccinate their children, I'd suggest contacting your local authorities and report his ignorant, potentially dangerous ass.
Even if vaccines do cause autism (which they don't), would you rather your child have a dealable brain condition or the inability to use his legs
Are these people really that fucking stupid? Parents these days, pff. They are probably using the "vaccines causes autism" argument to justify why they don't fucking vaccinate their child. Sick fucks. (sorry for the rant)

I find it really hard to respect someone as willfully ignorant as an anti-vaxxer, in this day and age.
Even if vaccines do cause autism (which they don't), would you rather your child have a dealable brain condition or the inability to use his legs
Well if it was like a 50% risk of autism vs a 1% risk of catching polio it wouldn't be that clear cut.
Well if it was like a 50% risk of autism vs a 1% risk of catching polio it wouldn't be that clear cut.
That would be ridiculous and improbable, it doesn't even work as a hypothetical.
Just take away the kids, these people are unfit to be parents. If you're so fucking retarded that you don't even vaccinate your children, there's no hope you'll raise them in any decent way.
But autism is a disorder that is caused by multiple genes / overly masculine brain. It's so complex we don't fully know. How can some jackass believe vaccinations cause autism
But autism is a disorder that is caused by multiple genes / overly masculine brain. It's so complex we don't fully know. How can some jackass believe vaccinations cause autism
Because people trust 200 seconds of "research" on some sketchy site instead of 200 years of medical progress
That would be ridiculous and improbable, it doesn't even work as a hypothetical.
I'm just saying that anti-vaxxers don't necessarily believe the risks are equal. And to apply that reasoning they'd have to believe that vaccines work at all in the first place... Anyway is this outbreak actually caused by dumb parents or bad healthcare? The article doesn't say.
Because people trust 200 seconds of "research" on some sketchy site instead of 200 years of medical progress
These fucking idiots trust Jenny McCarthy more than medical professionals :suicide:
Well at least they didn't get autism! R-right guys?
i don't the anti-vax programme in ukraine is that big, it's more a case of less access to healthcare
Pretty sure they don't vaccinate against polio as a standard shot in the US since there hasn't been a case here in decades and polio is waterborne and our sewage systems are great
But autism is a disorder that is caused by multiple genes / overly masculine brain. It's so complex we don't fully know. How can some jackass believe vaccinations cause autism
Because they believe that the medical research was just made up by "Big Pharma" to trick them into vaccinating their kids.
i don't the anti-vax programme in ukraine is that big, it's more a case of less access to healthcare
Loss of healthcare and sanitation, polio is commonly transmitted from open sewers, which is why most of the places that it still exists have almost no sewage infrastructure, the WHO helps them build sanitary facilities far enough away from domiciles
Because they believe that the medical research was just made up by "Big Pharma" to trick them into vaccinating their kids.
The Government's just trying to inject everyone with autism because... Error no logic found
Well if it was like a 50% risk of autism vs a 1% risk of catching polio it wouldn't be that clear cut.
I'd rather have autism than polio.
man don't bunch Ukraine in with the rest of us. I'm not surprised with what is going on that country anyway. The country is a wreck struggling to fund its public services, can't expect them to have good vaccine coverage at the moment.
Because there is no way this can be because of a civil war ravaging the country. No, it has to be anti-vaxxers.
Because there is no way this can be because of a civil war ravaging the country. No, it has to be anti-vaxxers.
Yeah, it's not like Europe was declared polio-free in 2002 or anything. And I'm sure the people of Ukraine vaccinate their ki-OH WAIT!
It doesnt take a large number of people to not vaccinate their kids. Ukraine isn't retard country because of this. Education regarding medicine needs to be raised across the world, antivaccers are fucking everywhere and it is a global issue.
Anti-vaccers in Ukraine don't vaccinate their children for different reasons. They aren't afraid of autism, they're afraid of the vaccine actually killing their child. There have been cases of kids dying because of low-quality vaccines and inept doctors here
I don't think it has anything to do with anti-vaxers, they just don't have access to the vaccine
To me, those who choose not to vaccinate their child(ren) is a form of abuse.
I don't think it has anything to do with anti-vaxers, they just don't have access to the vaccine
It's less of a problem that there aren't enough Vaccines in Ukraine, it's just that the majority of the ones they do have are just shitty quality and therefore scares some people away from vaccinating their kids because low quality vaccines have caused deaths before. [editline]3rd September 2015[/editline]
The Government's just trying to inject everyone with autism because... Error no logic found
Well isn't that obvious???? OBVIOUSLY THEY'RE TRYING TO MAKE US ALL STUPID SO THEY CAN CONTROL US BETTER!!!!! JET FUEL CAN'T MELT STEAL BEAMS IDIOTS....
Why hasn't this happened in California yet? The parents can pride themselves on giving their paraplegic child some holistic sugar pills to fight off the paralysis. We didn't want you to have Autism, we thought paralysis was a better choice in life.
I've heard that those kids got infected with a virus from a vaccine?
