"So let's get started here," said Moskowitz, firing up his first slide. And yet… it crashed with an error message. "Unable to connect to the server." Laughter from the room as people caught on, then applause. He then tried to reload the slide, only to have a second error message pop up. Still unable to connect.
"As you all know," Moskowitz said as the chuckles died down, "our game had a bit of a rocky launch, a couple of server and connection issues. My contribution to the game happened after the login screen, after the front end. As a member of the team I apologize to anyone here that experienced frustration. I know it was frustrating to a lot of people, and as fellow game developers, I hope you can understand that the first few weeks after launch were an emotional roller-coaster for the team. We created this game which people really love and were attached to, and were frustrated by the inability to log in by itself. For those of you who have some rotten tomatoes, and anyone who wants to talk about online requirements, I will happily direct you to our PR guy." More light laughter.
While Moskowitz' joke didn't give any insight into what's really going on with SimCity's launch and online requirement, it was a welcome human moment amid the din of an ongoing controversy.
stay classy Maxis
Accurate.
I can't decide which launch was worse, Sim City or Diablo 3. I'm gonna have to go with the former. This is just embarrassing.
Nice to see they can lighten up about the disaster of a launch.
If this was a shareholders meeting I'm sure this would seal my investing in a company where even the demonstration software is unusable.
Wait was he showing a slideshow or the actual game? The article is confusing in that area...

Was just a jokey little ice breaker slide for their presentation.
From the article I take it as the first two slides were in fact error messages, as a joke.

Please read the article, it's short enough. It was a joke.
I get the joke, doesn't replace the fact I and many other didn't buy the game because of such problems. Put that in your presentation.

It isn't a joke when your userbase is pissed off with seeing the same unnecessary screen.

See above.

Definitely SimCity since Maxis/EA should have learned from D3's launch that this would end badly.
Not to mention the fact that Blizzard had it fixed in a couple of days while SimCity took over a week to even get running. Even then, half its features were disabled. Oh and the fact that EA and Maxis lie at every turn.

Have you seen that screen?

The game is working for the most part now. You can still get in and still build cities. Cheeta mode is still disabled but can be reenabled using a mod and great works seem to be a bit fucked.
Have you actually played in the past week or so?

Too bad the simulation is broken. The only thing you actually need is residential.

Yeah. You confirm my comment.
Yeah. You confirm my comment.
What? You said all you needed is residential. I'm saying you still need all other basic utilities and even then the city is still fucked up beyond all belief.

Missing the point to try and form some sort of opposition to the fact that the game is broken.
SimCity is broken. Yes, we knew about the roads and the pathfinding and we even grew to love the rollercoaster-esque bridges but what shouldn’t be possible, what flatout should not work is a 100% residential city. Each city is supposed to be in equilibrium; a blend of industrail, commercial, and residential properties, each feeding into one another.
I like this quote.

I have literally no fucking idea what you are on about. I'm saying you need more than just residential. You are saying you just need residential. That's it. The end. I could probably do the same thing in sim city 4. They would still build up but be pissed off as hell.

Yeah, its broken. I was talking about RCI. You don't need employment beyond utilities. What a half ass'd broken simulation. Its been proven the only zoning you need to do is residential to skyrocket through the leaderboards.

It wasn't unusable though. Joke or not, this still proves you didn't read the article.

posting this quote here because half of you dudes aren't even going to attempt to read the article.
i like how the team is having a pretty good laugh about the problems. can really tell that they were stressing their asses off after all of this shit.
Jokes are hard.

I dont see how your logic works
He could have read the article and made the joke?

Then why don't they just provide support for an offline mode so they won't have to stress their ass off about shit?

You are broken. Everytime I read your posts, it's like I'm listening to a broken record repeating the same scratched track over and over again.
Please, for the love of christ go back to /v/ and stay there.

I've been to 4chan once and it was horrible. But yes, the game is broken. I don't see the point in saying otherwise just to sound different and/or add variety.

You've been to the wrong boards man.
