• Harddrive dying?

Well I have an old IDE harddrive in my computer, which is basically only used for backup stuff and such, not used very often. But whenever I want to access it, windows locks up for a second, the harddrive makes a "cludge" sound and then you can hear it spinning. It never did this before, started to happen some months ago, thought it was normal. But now, sometimes when I don't even access anything, it still makes that cludge sound, which kinda drives me crazy(I'm an OCD guy). Should I worry that it will die soon? I've already run the error check from windows, turned out it was all fine.
Sounds from a hard drive is not a good sign. Download and run diagnostic software from the manufacturers website.
I've downloaded "SeaTools" now, since both my harddrives are supported by it(the older one is a Maxtor, which is now Seagate and the second is also a Seagate). The S.M.A.R.T. gives me a "good" result on both, now I'm running the tests of the SeaTools thing. Let's see what they give me... Edit: Only tried the short ones, but it seems to be okay. Edit2: Hm, now I don't even get that cludge sound when accessing it... Maybe it was that energy savings mode, which disables the harddrives after 20 minutes, turned that off.
