I want to start off a song about a girl I like and build up the tensions by mentioning inside jokes and experiences with her as the song progresses. I'm kind of stumped on how to start it off. I don't want to just dive into it, any suggestions? Like, they don't even have to be lyrics, but if I wanted the song to take place in a favorite memory of me and her together, should I set the stage for that first or what?
This is really the first song I've ever tried to write about said topic. I really feel for this girl, and I don't want to creep her by saying "love" and stuff, because I don't know if I love her yet.
The song is in the form of a Sublimesque reggae song because apparently I sound like Brad Nowell and I love Sublime anyhow, as well as herself.
Also, what are some good ideas to plan out relevant lyrics to the song? Listing things about that day, inside jokes, conversation topics of that day, events?
I'm gonna be flat out honest, I've never written a song in my life.
Listen to 'You were my Everything' by Aviation, Be inspired :D
And 'My L.O.V.E' By the League too :D

I'll be right back. Hopefully with inspiration.
Good Luck ;D
Ehh. These are both like hip-hop / rap. Not really anything that helped.

The setting (if I write this song) would be at the same place that I had the good memories of us. Like out on a pier over the river at some park.

With an acoustic guitar
What kind of Genre do you want?
What kind of Genre do you want?
Like acoustic / reggae. Something like Jack Johnson, Sublime, or Slightly Stoopid.
I'm not that good with those but...'One Love' By Bob Marley
I made up a riff that I like, and it's pretty mellow. If I post lyrics that sound familiar, they are, it's because a lot of our inside jokes are about various lyrics.
can you post the music after you finish?
And what instrument do you play?

I play guitar. Yeah, it might take me a day or two to write the bit and revise.
well, something like this:
I SAW YOU AT JC PENNY
I READ YOUR NAMETAG, IT SAID JENNY
Don't do it, those kind of songs always end up badly
Don't do it, those kind of songs always end up badly
I disagree. Anything that's inspired by emotions have great potential, and love is probably the greatest emotion of them all.
I cannot help you more than don't stress it, just sit around and jam, extending and improvising the song. Then you keep what sounds good.

Eric Clapton - Layla.
I think you just messed up.
If you really want to write a song, the chords/tones/whatever come by themselves.
I can write it for you if you're willing to do the lyrics.
Start of with "GIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIRRRRRRRRRRR, BABY... AND I MISS YOU SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO GIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIRL BABY"
All you need to get laid is three chords.
G
C
and D.
learn those, and you barely have to sing. You'll get great lay.
Recommended words to say while playing these chords:
Wonderwall

I love you

baby

sun

Delilah

girl
The list goes on, but that's a good start.

JOY! I can play all of those.

I hope this copies and pastes right. I have a chord progression going.
|----------------7-----2-------5------3
|----------------7-----3-------5------3
|----------------7-----4-------6------4
|--------------7-7---4-4------7------5
|------------5---5-2---2----7-7---5-5
|-------------------------5-----5-3---3
That came out kind of sloppy.

Then there's a little chorus thing and a bridge I made.
I'm not gonna tab those out because they don't paste well. But in barre chords it goes from A slides down through A# to G. That's the chorus. Then the bridge before the chorus is just an E minor then goes up to the G, then goes back to E up to G again, then goes to A. Then the chorus starts.
Hope you understand what I'm talking about. I might record it. I can get lyrics pretty easy for this one.
Do you think she will like these lyrics?
Oh I know you know that I'll only be alright,
If I could hold you tonight,
Girl I know you know that I'll only be alright,
And I'll go down without a fight,
I know it's what you really want,
But you taunt and you taunt and you taunt,
You could guide me to the light,
If I could hold you tonight.
Also It's played in an alternate tuning that I made up. Might post the actual song later if I can record it. Just need some feedback on the words.

Maybe, I'll try them out. The song I have going sounds a lot like a Jack Johnson song or something. So it's a little bit whimsical and fun-romantic, those lyrics are kind of serious.
Shit man those are my lyrics LOL.
I just wanted feedback on if they were good. I'm writing a song for a girl too :)
I say you go with the funny silly love song type deal. Girls love that shit. I have a friend and he writes tons of silly love songs and the chicks love it. And some serious ones. Here's an example, a chorus from one of his songs.
It's not hard to love you with that halo up above you,
Girl you make the world go round,
Your eyes they sparkle like the sea and let me know you're all I need,
You lift me up and never let me down.
I wish I could write shit like that.

Haha, don't be discouraged bro, they aren't bad lyrics. They just don't fit the type of song I'm going for. I just sing random things to myself while playing my riff over and over again until I get it to sound right and pass the message I want to get across. The first verse and a chorus should be up in like 30 minutes hopefully. I have to work til 7 though.
[editline]01:02PM[/editline]
Rough draft of the Intro (Verse) and part of the chorus. I'm making some adjustments, but this isn't the whole song.
Verse:
Somehow it took so long to see
Everything I ever wanted was sitting right in front me
We were hanging out, late one December eve
Everything we did was beautiful, so beautiful
And If I could do it all over again
I wouldn't change, no I wouldn't change one little thing
Girl you got me wrapped around your finger
Ain't no need to wait, ain't go no time to linger
Bridge:
Come on a little closer dear
I've got something that you gotta hear
Ain't nothing bad, nothing to fear
Ain't nothing but a whisper in your ear
Chorus:
Everything we are,
Everything we could be,
Anything is possible,
Now could you see yourself with me?
The lyrics were not for you lol.
It's a really upbeat melody. I might record it if I get around to it.

I don't know why, but seeing that makes me think Autumn Leaves.
i finished your chorus:
Everything we are,
Everything we could be,
Anything is possible,
Now could you see yourself with me?
now spread yourself wide open
and let me touch you
