“I think some people in the UK are losing their temper but there’s no need for that,” he added.

Does the European Union have a right to support Spain's claim for Gibraltar despite Brexit?

Well, yeah. The UK wants out of the EU, and the EU is supposed to support the interests of its constituents. Spain is one, the UK won't be, makes sense to support Spain.

I see why the UK would want it. It's got a decent military position and wouldn't be a bad holiday place for brits. Also, it's populace want to remain brits.

Why spain wants it..

It's of no tactical value, unless they're worried the UK will invade or something.
Spain isn't a military power.
It's in the peninsular.. but so is portugal and they're not that pissed about it.
The populace don't want it.

I'm not really invested in this and I hate brexit, but it genuinely seems like the spanish government are just being really, really petty about an enclave.

The European Union, or rather it's leaders now show their true face - the union of democratic nations which will do everything to make Your life harder if You decide to leave it's union.

A union which Britain leaves, because the majority who voted decided so.

I must say, at this point, if I were Brit, I wouldn't feel that I have lost anything. Shengen and any other international treaty can be signed just fine beyond EU.
