Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has arrived at Government House in Brisbane to dissolve Parliament and call a November election.
Ms Palaszczuk is visiting acting Governor, Chief Justice Catherine Holmes, to set a November 25 election date.
The Premier is due to speak to the media at 11:30am.
After two years and eight months of minority government it is understood Ms Palaszczuk is seeking an election on Saturday, November 25.
The visit to Government House came after the Premier called on her grandmother to mark Grandparents Day.
An election became inevitable on Friday when Ms Palaszczuk directed the ALP to disendorse the member for Pumicestone, Rick Williams, over a complaint that he threatened a local constituent.
She acknowledged yesterday it had given her a lot to think about on election timing.
"I took an extraordinary step last night," she said.
Earlier last week, Ms Palaszczuk had said it would take something extraordinary for her to consider going to an election this year.
The move against Mr Williams leaves Labor and the LNP with 41 seats each, meaning State Parliament was unlikely to sit again in mid-November.
For such a peaceful country our political instability is crazy

This is hardly political instability. Labor lost their margin due to the actions of a single MLA, and were therefore pretty much expected to announce a new election.

do you remember how many prime ministers we went through
do you remember how many prime ministers we went through
Irrelevant as this is about a state government and not the federal government, but even then, hardly a sign of political instability. Changing the figurehead is in no way comparable to politically-motivated violence, assassinations, rampant corruption, disregard for checks and balances, verging on being a failed state etc.
Fine I admit it, I don't understand the actual severity of dissolving parliament

Better a bunch of old dudes arguing under our government appointed hobbit hole than an armed conflict, if you ask me.
Dissolving parliament just means holding an election soon to form a new one, it's not that big of a deal.
Lol someone asked her how much debt qld is in and she couldn't even give a figure.
A+ for finance management
