George Romero's Empire of the Dead, the iconic horror director's zombie comic book set in New York City, is headed to AMC as a TV series, according to zombie artist Arthur Suydam, who provides covers for the comic.
The news comes as part of a local news story looking at Wizard World Louisville, in which Suydam is one of a couple of people briefly interviewed.
Holding up a copy of the comic for the camera, Suydam said that he had just finished work on the series and that "This just got signed by AMC, so it's going to be the next, big zombie series on AMC."
Not that I don't appreciate Romero, but this whole zombie genre fad is getting mundane and predictable with every synopsis.
Lots of people call lots of undeserving people hacks, but... George Remero is totally a hack...

Sure, George. Sure.
Yeah he did a lot for the zombie genre but today he is still stuck thinking that it's 2005.
Zombies aren't a unique enough concept alone now. You have to put a lot of effort in everything else besides the zombies to have something meaningful in an entertainment market literally drowning in them.

the way he just tacks on "of the Dead" just shows how much he's branded himself into a safe sameness that we can pretty much expect him to never branch out and do something new or exciting with the concept
Because they need SOMETHING zombie related to fill the schedule gap between Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead hiatuses.
But hey, at least its not another attempt at a "reality" show, right? RIGHT!?
I'd probably be more excited for this if he hadn't put out Diary and Survival of the Dead. God, those suck...

He wasn't always though. His original trilogy was absolutely amazing and original. Especially due to a lot of the social commentary he managed to intertwine to such an outlandish concept at the time. It's just he hasn't done anything new or unique in so long now.

he basically only works for a paycheck now. in the early 2000s he said he would never do anything zombie related again but when he tried to do other stuff it all failed. now he's just making a living with whatever novelty is left to his name

So this is going to be AMC's third zombie show, right?
Can't say I'm too pleased to consider that.
Good god AMC give it a rest. It's bad enough I have two shows to keep track of, one of which I've already lost interest in. Even as a zombie nut I'm kinda sick of it.
The coolest thing the zombie genre has ever done, collectively, is infinite mode in Dead Rising 1. Making barricades out of everything around you was the best part of the game that they stupidly dropped from Dead Rising 2. Dunno if it made it into DR3
The only Zombie TV shows I was is Walking Dead which is meh now and Z Nation on Syfy channel. Of which has unique zombies and creatures. My favorite of which is Zombies which were trapped in a facility that created Ritalin and Viagra causing the zombies to act funny but you also can't go wrong with radiation zombies.
I loved AMC because of the diverse lineup they have. But I'm really tired of zombies
Put more money into Better Call Saul instead.
He hasn't made anything good since Land of the Dead anyways, which is a real shame because his old films were just perfect.
Luckily the comic isn't just about zombies, it's also got vampires.

If its good then we won't care.

He created three masterpieces and spawned an entire genre. Just because he's stuck in his ways and stagnant these days doesn't mean I'd call him a hack.
Another fucking AMC zombie show, though? I really liked Fear the Walking Dead, but even I thought that was oversaturation. This is too much. It'll have to be on par with Dawn or Night of the Living dead to even be worth a damn.
Sorry, I tend to ramble, but on another note, I think the best examples of the zombie genre are stories that don't revolve entirely around there being zombies. My favorite example of this is a book called "Every Sigh, The End" (it's a lot better than the title). Even though the subtitle is "A Book About Zombies", the zombies themselves are really only a minor part of the plot.
Basically Ross Orringer lives a stagnant life selling schlock horror films with his friend, attending parties and cheating on his cheating girlfriend. One thing stands out, though. He begins to notice mysterious men with cameras following him around, and it seems that more people are watching him as he passes. Then he begins to notice the film crews. Camera equipment is moved into town, make up is applied, and it all culminates as the film crew arrives at a local party followed by a horde of zombies. The lights are set up, cameras roll and the director shouts action. Ross and his friends find themselves as the unwitting stars of a kafkaesque reality TV show where the stars are pitted against hordes of zombies which one is never sure if they are just actors or actual zombies, though the carnage is most certainly real. As the drama unfolds, it begins to become apparent that many of Ross' friends might not be trustworthy, and he may play a larger role in this conspiracy than he could have ever imagined.
It's a fever dream from hell where reality is questioned to the fullest extent and it only gets more bizarre as the plot unravels. Definitely worth a read if you like a good mind fuck. Probably one of the most original, interesting and underrated novels I have ever read. If they told Romero to fuck off and wrote a show about this I would watch it so hard I'd shit myself.

he's not just outdated, he's a legitimately terrible filmmaker now. it's such an astoundingly bad turnaround. you can see he's not putting anywhere near the effort into his ideas that he used to just from the speed his last 3 movies were churned out versus the nearly ten year gaps between Night Dawn and Day.

His last decent zombie film was Land of the Dead in 2005, his newer stuff is just low-budget trash.

Indeed I haven't seen a good film from Romero since Land of the Dead, which wasn't bad but still pretty disappointing. However, I just don't really care how bad his current films are. He's already made three films I consider masterpieces, that earns enough respect in my eyes to excuse the bullshit he's pumping out lately just trying to keep riding that money wave he more or less created.
Romero's been completely irrelevant and terrible since as Dawn of the Dead was made. I won't even touch the last decade of his career with a stick, so needless to say this will be a massive failure and hopefully the catalyst for every writer and their mother to stop focusing on zombies already.

you forgot about Izombie you sick fuck!
Hopefully you've seen Red Letter Media and I captured Mike's humor well enough.
after diary of the dead and survival of the dead I'm baffled why anyone thinks george romero is relevant anymore.
I'd rather see a TV adaption of Cormack McCarthy's The Road than more zombie stuff. I feel the first season of the Walking Dead is a classic, but the subsequent seasons just have become uninteresting and repetitive.
More Zombies? Why not make a fallout based post-nuclearwar apocalyptic series instead?
People should go back to demons.
I miss demons.
