Is there such thing? If you think you started fairly late how was the experience, and what do you think of your skills now? Posts about established / legendary musicians are more than welcome too.
Cheers bros.
Never too late. If it makes you happy, do it! :buddy:
It's nothing like sport where you peak at a relatively young age. If you start learning guitar at age 20 and learn for 10 years, you could be just as good/better than someone who practiced for 10 years starting at 10 years old
Yeah, man. As long as you have fun with it, then go for it!
No such thing
go for it
Never to late man!
Unless you don't have arms or some shit
It's too late then
Haha. I appreciate it a lot, but I'm not looking for encouragement. I'm looking for anecdotes, concrete stuff, etc.
Don't you play video games and play it better and better every day?
The same is for the instruments. Think of them as a game, but in a veteran difficulty
Something more profound please.
And I don't think Akayz even plays an instrument. :smug:
You don't have to play an instrument to be able to appreciate music
My love of music caused me to decide to play guitar, and I don't appreciate music anymore than when I started
Wasn't my point. I said that 'cause he's spamming lates.
I see
Go for it man! I was kind of thinking the same thing when I started playing guitar, as all my friends started at like, age 10.
But after only two years of playing, I'm in a band that is, amazingly, good enough to play all around my region an actually fuckin' get paid for it!
And the guitar was only a starting point, I now play the violin, accordion, piano and the saxophone.
Seriously, just do it. The world of music is a vast, awesome place and you can do whatever you want in it. There is no such thing as "too old" for anything.

That wasn't particularly "profound" was it:v: sorry.

started at 12 btw.
You're too late if you're dead or in a permanent coma but besides that you're never too late.

Since we are discussing why we all picked up an instrument, I picked up an instrument because I was addicted to games and wanted to make an end to that and because 90% of my family plays an instrument.

Orly, I started listening to metal all the time after I started playing guitar :v:, or very soon beforehand
Quite funny that we did the exact opposite.
I reread my post again and someone might think I'd have something against metal, I don't it's just not doing anything for me, sorry if anyone felt offended or something.

I AM HATING YOUR HERESY! GET OUT!
Nah just kidding, I wasn't offended.
As I took it you were just searching for more expressive instrumentals than in most metal, there's nothing wrong with that.
I'm 18 and I just started the guitar.
It's never too late.
I started playing bass when I was almost 15 and that was almost a year or something over a year ago.
It seems like the day of yesterday when I started playing bass guitar, I could barely play Green Day songs when I started out and now I'm playing Symphony X and The Black Dahlia Murder songs
I've been playing since I was 9 or 10 (I'm 19 now), I forget exactly. My dad just asked if I wanted to play guitar, and I was like "sure, why not :v:". Best decision of my life. From that spawned my interest in music, which has ultimately become my favourite aspect of life really.
It's never too late, in fact it may even be better. I know a few people who have been playing their instrument since the early age of 9 or so, but say that until they were around 14 they didn't have much improvement.
Hell, my dad just started playing drums after wanting to do so all his life, and he's in his late 50's.
I'm 17 and only recently properly knuckled down and started honing my keyboard skills.
my drum instructor has a student who is in his 60s and hasent played drums for over 30 years, which at that point it mine as well be new
so no, its NEVER, EVER too late.
It's true, I'm no musician.
I do play music through my mind though. :smug:
I started playing bass guitar at 16, which is fairly "late".
2 years later I'm not all that great, but I'm fairly good at least skill wise.

i take your thoughts and raise you 2 arms and 2 legs
if you no play violin by 8 you get out of house

Eric Clapton learned at like 16 how to play guitar and very quickly he was playing at clubs and shit and became famous.
I've been toying with the idea of learning an instrument for a few years. I'll probably save up and shell out the cash when I'm around 20 or so (another 2 or 3 years).
I keep flip-flopping between wanting to learn bass and (rhythm) guitar, though. And then I've had periods where I want to learn drums. Even though Rock Band (Shut up :smith:) and my own personal air-drumming has made it obvious to me that I can't do doublekick and arm-work at the same time. I can do them separately okay, though.
That being said, which would people suggest? Bass or (rhythm) guitar? Keep in mind my end goal is to try and form a band and actually write out and perform some of the many, many song ideas I've had over the years.
