“On PlayStation 4, it just happens. You just make a PS4 game, it supports Remote Play,” SCE Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida told Engadget.
Not every game will work – “Maybe not Just Dance,” Yoshida joked, since that will use PlayStation Move or PlayStation Camera – but Sony has made it pretty easy for developers to opt-in.
“Please make sure that when you play your games on Vita, the control is good. That’s the minimum thing we’re asking them to do,” he said.
Although Sony has politely requested developers to implement a Vita-specific control scheme to support Remote Play, that’s nothing compared to the work they had to do on PlayStation 3. As Yoshida noted, this changes Remote Play from a rarely-used novelty to a feature with real legs.
“The single biggest issue, why there are not many PlayStation 3 games that support Remote Play, was that it was optional – the system didn’t do much. The game has to set aside some memory or CPU to be able to do that, and usually, memory is the most precious resource that teams fight amongst each other for,” he said.
“So when it comes down to the priorities, these are features that are very easy to drop.”
I was just about to say this would be good for the 5 people that own a vita.
Ive owned the Vita 1 month after it launched and I've only played 5 titles the system has to offer. I'm glad that they're giving me a chance to use the system.

Well, they're making the Jak & Daxter collection and it's rumored that Ratchet & Clank and Sly Cooper are next. As someone who grew up on PS2 I would buy it for that.
A PS4 + Vita bundle would be awesome, and probably an instant buy for me.

I became the seventh person two weeks ago and I love it
It's a great console and a worthy successor to psp
sounds cool but i don't see myself really using it
unless they did something rad like local co-op between ps4 and remote-play vita
The Vita has a lot of great games. It gets a lot of flak because of bandwagoning, but if you actually looked at some of the titles released, it rivals the 3ds's library and it's much younger.
I was hoping for more Vita news this year oh well ( like major new titles )
I actually bought a vita shortly after the sony conference (Yes I know they skimmed over the thing during E3, w/e). So far I have 10 games on it, and with the Jak collection, Hotline Miami 2, maybe the new Killzone, and now this whenever I get a PS4, I'm pretty sure the Vita can last (Though a PS4 + Vita bundle were sure get more Vita's out there).
My friend owns 2 Vitas. He bought one on release and his uncle got him one as a gift.
I also have a Vita, which I have 3 games for. I am looking forward to expanded support after the PS4 is released.

it really gets flak because it's not a smartphone. Outside Japan, both 3DS and Vita are not super popular, handhelds are allot more popular in Japan than outside it
Yeah, the Vita and the PSP are very popular in Japan, depending on what games are out, the Vita can actually outsell the 3DS some weeks. I don't really care about the smartphone part, they tried that with the PSPGo and no one got one.
I own a Vita.
It's a pretty fantastic system, and it has some great games. I have some PS1 classics downloaded on it, as well as Soul Sacrifice and Persona 4, and a few other odd random games.
Spelunky HD is coming out for Vita sometime soon as well, which I'm EXTREMELY hyped for because everyone has wanted a portable Spelunky.
With the PS3 it was just a flag that needed to get checked to allow PSP to play the games. I am surprised more devs just didn't tick the box

A year qualifies as 'much younger'?
Oh, hey, The Vita is now interesting because of more than just homebrewed Indie games and emulators now.
If only Capcom would put Monster Hunter back on the Vita and PS3/4 the sales would skyrocket in Japan/
This is good. I was worried that this being a necessity for most titles would put developers off who don't want to spend additional money on a feature like this.

id use it because it can be used over the internet, would be great for playing a game without lugging my ps4 to a hotel

Remote play on the PS3 involves having to divert cpu cycles to encode the video stream. With most games using close to 100% of the Cell, there simply wasn't enough power there to divert.
The PS4 has dedicated video encoding/decoding hardware that does all of the work while leaving the main cpu to handle games.
How would you press L/R3? The L/R2 could be the back touchscreen (as much of a pain as that could be), but having the other two be the front screen would be problematic.
I've had 2 psp's and my dad has a psp that be never uses

The way the PS1/PSP emulator does it is split the back touchpad into 4 zones.

That's due to people remembering how dull the psp was and how expensive all the content was for it. Besides that why have sony not hooked up the PSP to be a phone yet? I would replace my phone with a PSP if they did that.

because they are much heavier and bulkier and thicker than a phone

Sony have advised developers to come up with control schemes that take advantage of the Vita's inputs for remote play.
