• Is my router dying?

My router stops working from time to time, it is still on but requires an reboot before it works again. Also, my network is wired. While the router was not working, I was able to open the router settings page of it. There wasn't anything wrong with the settings either. So, does this mean my router will have an complete failure soon? I can't RMA it anymore, since this thing is acient (about 8 years). Also, if this thing is going to die, recommend me an wired router. Thanks.
I have this sometimes and mine is 2 months old...

Not sure if it will outright die, but it sounds like it might be time for a new one.
Buy a wireless router, disable the wireless radio. No problem. They are pretty cheap nowadays.
-snip- wrong thread
What IS your router? Specifically, don't just say "a linksys".
This is what the OP should buy: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833122326
That's an excessively useless router tbh
How so? It's got everything I need in a router... Dual-band routing, USB NAS, Gigabit Ethernet, Wireless N, what's "excessively useless" about it? I could understand if grandma just needed basic wireless access, but I like to control every aspect of my home networks (I admin 3).
Surprisingly for you, only few people would need features such as Dual-band routing and USB NAS in a home network, and these features should jack up the price of the overall router quite a lot.
I know it seems like alot of money, but you get what you pay for. If you just need a wireless connection with nothing special, just pickup a shitbox in a brick and mortar store. Now if you know what the hell you are doing and need a powerful, robust router, shop on newegg and look for the one with the options you need for your home network.

Bam, network printer, network attached storage, etc. Since I find it doesn't actually share with samba for some reason, I just set it up so that I just run \\192.168.1.1\Printer Install\InstallPrinter.bat, and it's installed and configured for you.
martijnp3000, grab a $40-$60 Linksys router, wired or wireless, your choice. If you need more features, install DD-WRT on it. Holy. Shit. I'm going to have a brain aneurysm.
Ok thanks again for all your help.
