So I was building my cousin's computer when he runs in and has a need to touch cpu's pins with greasy fingers. Well now the computer doesn't boot. I turn it on, fans spin, lights flash and then it just shuts down.
Is cpu fucked? Or might it be something else?

You probably forgot to plug in a wire somewhere.
You should still get some strong alcohol and wipe off the grease.
I borrowed a cpu from one of his rich friends. It works fine. But with this one it won't boot.
How do I use alcohol to clean it?
You may have bent a pin.
Tell him he's a dick, but it may not be the CPU, there's a good chance the GPU may be doing it too, as it did the same for me.

There are no pins on a modern CPU. They look kinda like this:

You know nothing of what happend, the cpu just won't boot.
Thats what you should say to techsupport so they'll replace it.

On topic: Clean it with some alcohol and check for bent pins
I had a simillar problem - the problem was that the CPU burned, had to buy a new one.

Get some strong alcohol, at least 50%, the stronger the better, then get a handkerchief or something that won't leave any fibers or such behind when you use it. Make sure the surface is totally clean, then just wait a minute and try again.

Oh, AMD. I've never used them, but it still feels like you need to use a bit of force to bend them. The pins would also make it harder to clean it.

Check for bent pins.

If your CPU has any pins, that is.

do you live in some alternate universe where only Intel makes cpus?

...what? the pins are very soft. and what do you mean "make it harder to clean it" if it is an AMD CPU and has pins, there's no physically possible way he touched the sides of the pins unless those way on the side, and even then, that shouldn't cause something like this.
what causes something like this is either the CPU isn't installed properly or an important cable is unconnected.
The computer boots with the friend's CPU, but not with this one. It's blindingly obvious that it's borked and either needs an RMA or replacement at your cousin's expense.
Lol no.
My buddy held his i5 in the palm of his hand for about 20mins total touching both sides and it works great and has amazing temps. Your cpu here is doa it wasn't ever going to work. Also the i5 spent a wile on the carpet traces down and it's fine.
I bent a pin on my AMD by accident... bent it back, works fine!

Same. But it wasn't my fault I took the cooler off and the cpu came with it some how, even though the clamp was down. I was confused at that point, as I look at the socket and there wasn't anything there WTF!?

Exactly how I bent mine lol.
It's because you're sposed to twist at the cooler as you take it off to loosen it from the gel on the CPU.

I did the same thing years ago with an old Dell, then I put the CPU back in without fully straightening one of the pins and it bent completely over :saddowns: Luckily a computer shop was able to straighten it properly and it worked fine.
Did you plug in the CPU power? That happened to me and I realised my CPU had no power...
If the computer turns on and then back off again, it could be the heatsink either isn't attached properly or you forgot the heatsink compound, and the computer is shutting off from the CPU overheating.
It could also be the motherboard is shorted somewhere.

you dont need to rant on about his mistake.

Omg i did that while disassesmbling my old computer. Needed the cooler for my new cpu since it was oem. So i tried removing it, it was stuck so i forced it out the cpu was stuck to it...
I leave for twenty four hours and when I come back, everyone in H&S has gone stupid.
