• Got my parts. Tried to build it. Turns on temporarily then turns off

So I'm building this thing you call a computer. So I think I have all the parts in. I plugged in everything that could plug in. I turn on the computer. 2 seconds later It turns itself off :/ I'd like to think it is a short circuit (actually no, because that would mean a faulty part :/ ... and I have everything plugged in properly) but it can't be because it actually turns on (or maybe... it can still be) I'm hosting a room so that you can see what's going on with my parts and stuff. Check nothing is shorting (ie, touching something it shouldn't be. Case to motherboard for example). Check all the cables are in correctly. Try turning it on using an onboard button or the two jumpers for the case to turn the motherboard on by. Check the power supply by doing the paper clip test.
DONE :D comp is built... and it all started with facepunch. I want to cry and hug all of you guys. [editline]22nd January 2012[/editline] windows 7 is 2 gigabites... my CDs only go up to 700mb :( what do?
You need more help? See if you have a thumb drive anywhere
I do! Sweet. I didn't know those worked too. It's 2 gigs... just enough to fit the os
Last time I checked Windows 7 needed a 4gb USB stick... power to you if it works though.
hrm... download said it was 2gb :/
What was the issue in the end - it's helpful for those who find these threads through Google results.
I'm just trying to figure out which of my already owned devices can handle windows 7. I think it's my thumb drive. Once it finishes downloadoing (stopped because my computer sleeped) I'll go ahead move it to my thumb drive and see if it fits. If that doesn't work... Well... Oh wait >_> I think I have the CD for win7 from this computer. Let me look for that too.
You know you have to format your drive to boot from a usb.
Bought some DVD's and got me an image of Win7... Now I'm trying to get connected to the internet. :/ I already have a desktop that connects to the internet with a hard line. I have one of those DSL cables in my room, but... can I establish two internet connections with that? It's asking me for an ISP name and password. is that something comcast gave to me? I'd assume so since thy are my internet service providers >_> I'm feeling like programming_king running through all this. it seems I'll be able to do any project after this :3
Looks like i"m getting this wireless adapator and just plugging it in? and then my comp will try to find wireless networks... on its own? I have a wireless router. [editline]24th January 2012[/editline] that's how my laptop connects :) ... wirelessly
