• Vin Diesel said 'I Am Groot" over 1,000 times for Guardians of the Galaxy

Short article so I'll paste the whole thing:
Even though Vin Diesel’s character Groot only says three words during Guardians of the Galaxy, Vin Diesel didn’t only record the three words one time. In an interview on the red carpet of the Guardians of the Galaxy world premiere, Vin Diesel revealed that he said “I am Groot” over a thousand times in doing his voice work for the role. “I was really lucky, because I had a director, who is willing to indulge and wanted to really capture all the nuances of this character. What we know about Groot is that he’s got a wooden larynx so although he’s saying other things, other than “I am Groot,” all the novice ears or someone oblivious to his nuances of his speech can hear is “I am Groot.” It sounds like he’s just repeating his name. Because of that, when I came into the recording room, there was a fifty page document that on the left hand side it said “I am Groot,” and on the right hand side, it would have a paragraph or a sentence explaining what he was really meaning or what he was really trying to say. And so when you have that level of detail, when you have a director that committed, when you have studio so hellbent on creating such a great CGI character, I feel like I’m coming into a team…a winning team already. And all I have to do is spend a week there in the ADR booth breathing life into it,” said Vin Diesel.
I trust each one would be more captivating than the last. I feel that I'm going to like Groot, The Iron Giant was the movie of my early childhood.

If there were any man alive that could convince me that he was Groot, it'd be Vin Diesel. I'm so glad he got the part, he sounded so enthusiastic in every interview about it.
Wow that is actually really crazy also Vin has an amazing voice. Vin Diesel is such an awesome guy. Hes a real dude
That was actually a shockingly good interview as far as Hollywood interviews go.
vin Diesel is one of the most polite celebrities ever
Vin Diesel made me have feelings for a 50 foot tall iron robot so i'm sure groot's character will rip my heart out at some point in the movie
vin Diesel is one of the most polite celebrities ever
He's also a super nerd.
vin Diesel is one of the most polite celebrities ever
And one of the nerdier too. For god's sake, the guy's played D&D. Would be pretty rad sessions, I imagine.
Isn't he a huge D&D Fan? [editline]24th July 2014[/editline] Welp answered :v: Also Vin Diesel's voice would make a _great_ DM.

I started to like Vin Diesel thanks to triple X. Didn't like the sequel due to not having Vin Diesel.

Groot is a really fun character Bet you guys didn't know he's the monarch of his home planet ([sp]well later he was found to be a false monarch and got imprisoned and tortured for it but that's another story[/sp]) and he hated every second he had to spend with Rocket at first. Then he lost his ability to speak normally because he "died". His species can't really die you see, if you re-plant a piece of them and water it and everything like a plant, they regrow. Groot came back, but all he could say is "I am Groot" or variations of that "I am help" "I am ow" that sorta shit. But Rocket still understood him somehow and they became best buds over time. I really hope Rocket says "Groot ol' buddy, ol' tree!" in the movie.

god dammit i already cried today
I wonder what it would be like to have Vin Disel in my DnD group, he would probably get the most RP experience with his awesome voice and acting experience.
I'm not familiar with Guardians of the Galaxy other than what I've seen and heard from these trailers. But Groot definitely sounds like the most interesting character. I'm curious how they were able to take three simple words and make them imply much deeper thought.
Hodor wants to have a word with Groot.
a word
Well done.
She totally wanted him...
She totally wanted him...
You don't?
She totally wanted him...
... do... do you not want to? Fuck i'd jump Vin given a chance.

Because of the stiffness of their larnyx (as Diesel said, a "wooden larnyx"), most people who hear their language sounds like "I am Groot." Groot (the one we know) was a royal of the people (thus is one of the smartest of them) who liked the squirrel slaves on his planet more than he did his own species. Eventually he killed another of his species for being very brutal to one of the squirrels, causing him to be exiled. The older backstory sounds a lot more interesting, but for the movie it's probably better that they went with the new one, only because it sounds a bit less complicated.
that sounds awesome
I'd be amazing if for the Blu-ray/DVD release, they had an optional subtitle track with what he's actually saying.
I'd be amazing if for the Blu-ray/DVD release, they had an optional subtitle track with what he's actually saying.
You already are amazing though.
I can't imagine a better actor for the role. His voice is perfect for Groot.
It may be one line, but I'm certain it's got more character than this. Vin Diesel is an all around good guy.
I feel like GOTG is something I should have known about long ago. Seems like my kind of stuff. Looking forward to the movie.
