I've been meaning to make a thread like this for awhile, but I've been too lazy to. I know that most people here know of that one band that plays around where you live that's fucking awesome and deserves recognition, or there's that one unheard of opening act you saw at one point who put on a show that rivaled the main show.
This is the Local/Unheard Of bands appreciation station.
first of all, you should describe whatever band you're posting. second, link to videos rather than posting them so it doesn't take an hour to load and scroll through youtube videos
I'll begin with a few of my favorites that I have posted around the music section:
The Kicks: These guys are a straight rock band from around the Nashville area. They have some pretty awesome Beatles influenced harmonies, a great attitude, and have released two albums so far; The Rise of King Richie and Sputnik Sessions. Hawk Eyes

Good Morning
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5Afw5ZzzMI&feature=related
and my favorite song by them:
Juliette

Damon Fowler/Damon Fowler Group: Damon Fowler is a solo musician, but he's also traveled with his three-piece band (including himself.) Damon is a guitarist (who also plays slide-pedal steel) and is amazing. I saw Damon when I went to see B.B. King; that's right, this dude opened for B.B. King. Damon has an amazing acoustic voice, he stood completely to the left of his microphone and sang loudly (and soulfully) enough for everyone in the theater to hear. Cypress In The Pines: (this is where Damon did his acoustic singing)

This is a live performance of one of my favorites by him, Fruit Stand Lady. Unfortunately, as you can tell, the audio is shitty.

James: this is a really touching song, imo.

The Part-Time Blues Band: These guys are a series of old friends who have been playing the Blues for most their lives. My dad is very good friends with the head of Part Time, Rusty Barkley. This is where the audio quality will be the worst, because clearly they aren't in this for the money, just for fun.

Cover of A Fool For Your Stockings (solofest 2010)

Sheila Carlisle and the PTBB: Fun fact! I was in the audience with some bros during this concert. It's a really nice outdoorsy get together sponsored by my dad's friend.

A website for the PTBB (probably has more clear music, etc.) The Part Time Blues Band
So, any of your favorites?
I'm going to be filling this thread momentarily.

People are probably getting sick of me posting these in the last.fm thread but:

They were a Norwegian post-rock band who came together to make one 6 song album back in 2006. They literally entered the studio, recorded the album, and then never played together again, live or anything. Some of the members never touched music again after it (one of them actually went on to be a politican). Since the release of their album six years ago they haven't received any attention whatsoever. Personally, their album is one of my favorites of all time and I think its a near masterpiece of the genre. Me and a few of my friends were even planning on getting a band together to play some of their stuff live.
The album is on Youtube if you want to give it a listen. Heres the first track (and my favorite):

I'll spare you the wall of text on this one. Local indie hip-hop collective from Minneapolis.

not trying to be a dick, just pointing it out
Recommended albums to start with is also a good option I think. Best way I can get into a band.

okay. Going to add this to the OP
Alda is a Folk/Black Metal. So far only two major releases. For fans of Agalloch, Ulver, Wolves In The Throne Room and like minded bands.

Thorr's Hammer were/are a Death/Doom band. They only released one EP, but to me it's one of the better Death/Doom releases out there. Plus the vocalist is a female which is rare for any type of extreme metal.

Good call sanius tired of clicking of threads in the music section and having to go make a drink before the page loads.....
http://www.nrk.no/urort/Artist/ChapterNine/default.aspx
Chapter Nine, a prog-metal band with a girl singer. I play in a band with their bass player and guitarist, and they definitely deserve any attention they can get, this is one of the best bands around here.
They only have 3 songs released, but they're pretty cool. Also they used my bass for recording their EP, so it's cool.
Ghosts of Glaciers - http://ghostsofglaciers.bandcamp.com/
Great post-metal band from Denver. Really awesome guys who love playing their music. They go to all kinds of shows around Denver.

O. Children is a post-punk/new wave band from London, UK. They released their eponymous début album in 2010, and have another in the works, due out in May. Here's a couple of their songs:
Dead Disco Dancer (from 2010 début):

PT Cruiser (first single from new album "Apnea"):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9F5srj8USLk
Give them a listen if you're into New Order.
Also, if you're in Leeds/Brigton/London this week, they're doing a set of THREE FREE GIGS
Vittu (saw them at a Matt Skiba solo show)

A new band started by a friend of mine and some of his buddies, they've been playing around town here a little bit and they sound pretty kickin' rad so far.
Give them a check out, they are definitely trying to get out there.
The Beards from Adelaide, SA Australia.

Beard themed songs for the masses.
