Florida man save us, brb hiding computer.
Why would they ban internet cafes to begin with?
Exactly what I would expect from FloriDUH
Guys, I'm breaking the law. #thuglyfe
Why would they ban internet cafes to begin with?

The law was intended to ban Internet cafes in an effort to crack down on illegal gambling
I expected an article from The Onion.
I would love if this applied to businesses too like airports.
WHAT.
Why would they ban internet cafes to begin with?
They think that people are using them to start gambling businesses without paying the proper taxes and what not. That's like going after laundry shops if a guy steals something while wearing clothes.
I thought "that title has to be sensationalist as hell" and then it wasn't welp
not surprised. it was probably written by a retiree and signed by a retiree.

CS/HB 155: Prohibition of Electronic Gambling Devices
Seems like a pretty roundabout way of fixing the issue...
theyre just like, fuck it im retired. let me just write this bill. and the dude that signed it is like fuck it ill just sign it
Welp, looks like I'm a guilty Florida Man
Electronic devices includes tv, calculators, stuff in hospitals, etc. Well done.
Seems like a pretty roundabout way of fixing the issue...
Of course, they're politicians, it's not like we would expect them to be able to deal with the issue in a more direct and logical way.
Electronic devices includes tv, calculators, stuff in hospitals, etc. Well done.
Dirty godless gambling machines.
they didn't ban computers/smartphones. it was a attempt to ban gambling centers. There's tons of sweepstakes/gambling centers disguising themselfs as internet cafes to avoid gambling loopholes. seriously in my town there was 2-3 of them for every half mile. it was insanity. the bill is a attempt to close the loophole. It doesn't effect any actual internet cafes. actual law stuff:
849.16 Machines or devices which come within provisions of 180 law defined.— (1) As used in this chapter, the term "slot machine or device" means any machine or device or system or network of devices is a slot machine or device within the provisions of this chapter if it is one that is adapted for use in such a way that, upon activation, which may be achieved by, but is not limited to, as a result of the insertion of any piece of money, coin, account number, code, or other object or information, such machine or device or system is directly or indirectly caused to operate or may be operated and if the user, whether by application of skill or by reason of any element of chance or of any other outcome of such operation unpredictable by the user him or her (a) Receive or become entitled to receive any piece of money, credit, allowance, or thing of value, or any check, slug, token, or memorandum, whether of value or otherwise, which may be exchanged for any money, credit, allowance, or thing of value or which may be given in trade; or (b) Secure additional chances or rights to use such machine, apparatus, or device, even though the device or system it may be available for free play or, in addition to any element of chance or unpredictable outcome of such operation, may also sell, deliver, or present some merchandise, indication of weight, entertainment, or other thing of value. The term "slot machine or device" includes, but is not limited to, devices regulated as slot machines pursuant to chapter 551.
There should be some system in place where, if you make and pass something this fucking stupid, you get fired and replaced immediately. There wouldn't even be any fancy language, just "If you as a lawmaker pass something really fucking stupid, you're out." Kind of like that judge describing porn as "I know it when I see it".
Good luck enforcing this!
I'll be laughing about this while paying my LAN tax, for sure
Haha, good luck Florida, you'll never take away my comput-
Didn't Florida once word a bill so poorly they banned sex?
I just read the whole text of the bill. It's not so broad that it bans everything, it's so vague that it bans nothing. don't worry florida, your computers are still legal
Didn't Florida once word a bill so poorly they banned sex?
They also banned Canadians and Brits from driving once by accident, which if enforced would have annihilated their tourism industry.
Until I read that it had something to do with a gambling loophole, I thought it was a case of "get rid of what we don't understand!".
What is with the governor's face: Its like a permanent poker face.
jokes on them, they'll only find my dragon porn and gasmask self-shots
