Its four winning drivers from 2012 have been excluded from competing in the 2013 British GT Championship’s Pro-Am category, which teams pro drivers with inexperienced racers.
http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1082228_nissan-gt-academy-drivers-too-fast-for-british-gt-championship
I think the fact that they are pairing pro drivers with inexperienced drivers is the real reason why they were denied.
And how long before these pro drivers begin training in simulators?

Pretty much any pro driver worth his money practises in a simulator already. Especially F1 drivers, but most GT1, GT2, GT3, prototype and open wheeler racers NEED simulators. (rally drivers just bugger off to the woods somewhere and go around much too quickly)
Earnhardt Jr just plays games with us common folk
Very good looking car, that GT-R is.

Are these simulators publicly available? I just bought a steering wheel and would like to try it in more things than Euro Truck Simulator.

They are far from inexperienced.

To my knowledge, a lot of them seem to be proprietary, though off the top of my head, Live for Speed has a pretty good (and multiplayer) demo - That game probably has one of the most realistic physics models out of any racing game I've played so far.

They played Gran Turismo for however long they played it, played GT Academy and did well, and then they went through whatever GT Academy nonsense comes afterwards. This would've probably been their first real racing event, so I'm going to say they're inexperienced. Hell, even in the article, they're labeled as such.

If you've got the money to spend.
But for just a game instead:

Maybe I worded that wrong, they are inexperienced, but they do just as good as professional drivers.
Just take Lucas Ordonez and Jann Mardenborough for example.

I've got the money, but not for that, college is a little more important :v:
I'll try out IRacing though, seems to be a decent compromise.

Don't some teams use a version of rFactor?
Yes, most teams use a special version of rfactor. iracing is the most realistic commercial simulator. That's about your only choices really.
I'd be disappointed with the news but I'd take it as a compliment
