• Building home recording studio, need help!

Hey guys, so I record most of my music out of my old home studio that was owned by my brother (all of the equipment was his) so I didn't really have to worry about any of the actual equipment... up until last night when I got the news that he's moving the remainder of his stuff. (That means everything I was using :[!) And I figured I would come here seeing as how I know some of you are audiophiles and could help me out. Anyway, all I need to know is what do I need? Seeing as how I didn't build my old studio, I don't know what to get for this one! If it means anything, I'm going to be using a Windows based computer for the editing, but as of August or September I'm going to be getting a new Macbook. So if you could give me a list of things I need then that'd be awesome! Currently I'm looking at home bundles so I could save a little bit of cash, this is the one that caught my eye; http://www.guitarcenter.com/M-Audio-BX5a-Monitor-and-Mic-Package-582250-i1447378.gc?CJAID=10449560&CJPID=4165478&CJSID=1tvttcnb7mxtj Now what else am I missing? My brothers studio costed him thousands upon thousands of dollars, so I'm completely clueless as to what else to get, I'm not looking to spend more than like ~600 dollars on all of this though. Thanks in advance, and cheers <3 May as well throw this out there; I'm going to be doing vocal recording, acoustic recording (acoustic guitar and ukulele) and electric recording (electric piano/synth and electric guitar/bass) Thanks all <3
I'm not an expert, but I can give you some advice. (And your link isn't working for me, sorry). I've just got an Alesis 4 track USB mixer which is perfect for me, with a behringer C3 mic. The specifics aren't important (firewire is generally better than USB for latency, you might want 8 tracks, other mics might suit your needs better, etc) but with this set up I can do anything you have said you need, and all together with all the cables and what not it hasn't cost me much over £200. I happened to have a really good Yamaha keyboard lying around which I use as a midi controller, which helps too, but you can get small ones fairly cheap too. Other than that you'll probably be wanting some good monitors, but I know nothing of them really, other than that you'll be wanting active one's so you don't need to buy a pre-amp.
firewire is generally better than USB for latency
True, but USB can be pretty damn fast too. I don't get any noticeable latency from my Pod GX.
I've build my home studio already, if you wanna talk or have some advice you can add me to an IM of sorts. This is what it looks like: http://silvestrismusic.com/images/studio/Pics_of_the_studio/13.jpg http://silvestrismusic.com/images/studio/Pics_of_the_studio/2.jpg http://silvestrismusic.com/images/studio/Pics_of_the_studio/15.jpg
True, but USB can be pretty damn fast too. Ask the guys over at gearslutz.com, it's a forum pretty much dedicated to what your doing.
