I got by with Winamp for years even after they stopped updating it, but thought I'd opt for something more modern and would like to hear what you use these days and why.
(tried using windows media player but I can't hear the music over the noise of it scanning every single file on my hard drives)
Ive used Winamp since 2005, but It never played cue files. I use Foobar2000 for those.
Winamp was my favorite but I started having problems with it so I've searched for a very tiny player that can play literally everything.
XMPlay is now my main music player with all the possible plugins for other file formats.

Huge bonus for the player being portable so I can simply sync it with dropbox to all my computers without having to do anything manually.
Foobar is OP, sometimes I use DeaDBeeF
I honestly just use groove on win10. It does what it needs to do that's all
winamp, i like the mini toolbar mode and super simple playlist organization.
foobar2000, because if you apply yourself, you can get it to do whatever the hell you want, such as everything mentioned in the thread already. It's basically the emacs of music players, except it's actually good at most things.

Not sure if to agree with the post or cringe at the comparison.
Foobar2000 for desktop use, MusicBee for music on-the-go from a USB. Though I'm starting to lean more on MusicBee for general stuff just because it's very easy. Foobar2000 is great at file operations though.
Foobar2000 on Windows, Phonograph on Android, and ncmpcc+mpd on linux/BSD
I'd post a cool foobar config.. but this is a fresh-ish install so I never really got around to it.
Steam.

That's why the statement "except it's actually good at most things" is there, to point out that I do understand the cringe but the same idea of "you can use it to do EVERYTHING" still applies
i swear i can get foobar2000 to replace explorer.exe as the desktop if i had better knowledge of C-based languages and time with the component SDK
I used to use foobar but I use MusicBee now. It works exactly how I need it too, I don't think you can do as much as you can with it as you can with foobar but it's not as clunky.
MusicBee is pretty much perfect for what I want
If you are seeking for a third party program, I think VLC player shall be good enough.

This is how I set up MusicBee.
Pretty much perfect.
I use MusicBee, but that's mostly because Foobar kept stuttering when I played music.
MusicBee does it, too, but only with flacs. v:v:v
foobar2k, with this theme. havent bothered with other things because foobar has everything i need

AIMP with the Ladient skin. I was using WMP for a while but it was a bit shit (still has better unicode tag handling than Groove).

I recall going through the whole list of music players on Wikipedia and finding some problem with them all.
AIMP with Ladient 2. It's Audio Converter is so damn good for ripping the soundtrack from the CD.
foobar2k, because like everyone else has said, it can do anything.

Foobar2k, because it's too flexible to not use it.

I used Clementine for a while but since most online radio streams are payed now its not that useful anymore
MusicBee. It replaced iTunes and all of the tagging scripts I used to have on my Macbook Pro. It syncs with everything, tags everything, converts files, and it's decently customizable.

foobar2000. Don't even use any plugins. It's a thing, it's light, it's simple, and it plays music. I don't need album art or visualizers or organization or any sort of features, just a light, simple thing that can play music files.
Foobar2000 for my music library, and WinAmp for random other audio files.
fb2k with default theme because i don't need to look at my music player
would be nice with it having an auto updated library though

So where's my auto updated library playlist where I can't remove tracks on?
Still on Windows Media player. Since the late 90's. Only discovered this Windows Groove thing now though after it was mentioned in the thread.
