This is why video games will always be a plebeian art form. It's time we move on to the ways of the patricians and discuss airplane instruction videos from the 80s
I've been spewing shit like this since the 360 and nobody would listen.
Doesn't matter what we say when people like my classmate exists. He eats up everything that various adervtising divisions shit out on his plate and will blindly defend the latest X or Y title despite being given facts. We have even had our first 3D Programming course and he still doesn't understand the importance of tickrate and framerate. When people are that blind and stupid, there is no saving gaming. :v:
This is why I only play FLOSS games
Don't you be dissing on my Xonotic, okay?
Pretty much hit the nail on the head. People get mad at me for being overly cynical and reserved when it comes to talking about upcoming games, but in this age, in the current state of the games industry, you have to be. Gaming is now a multi-billion-dollar industry with millions of people who will unconditionally lap up the latest titles, so of course the biggest publishers are always doing whatever shady and stupid shit they can to squeeze more bucks out of people for less effort. Remember, kids: stay in school, eat healthy, brush daily, and don't ever pre-order a video game.
Remember, kids: stay in school, eat healthy, brush daily, and don't ever pre-order a video game.
few exceptions though to be fair. like i'm willing to preorder anything rws puts out because i really like supporting the devs and know they actually care about their product.
few exceptions though to be fair. like i'm willing to preorder anything rws puts out because i really like supporting the devs and know they actually care about their product.
Well yeah, I was just making a joke, but in seriousness there are pre-orders that are alright if it's something you know you'll like or if it's a limited physical run of a niche game. Like some of the rhythm game series I'm into: I know every new entry will just be more of the same with different tracklists, but that's what I want. They couldn't possibly fuck that up. And niche Japanese games like that often get low-print runs and then rely on digital from there on out, so of course I want to make sure I get a copy. Pre-ordering a game is actually pointless most of the time, though. There isn't going to be a stock shortage of the latest Call of Duty, and there certainly won't be any stock shortages of digital games. The pre-order bonuses they offer are always worthless, even if it's some 'exclusive' piece of DLC or a big collector's edition with a cheap statue or small artbook. Other than specific cases, pre-ordering is never necessary and you're best off just waiting for the game to come out and getting some real player impressions/reviews (because these days most of the pre-release reviews are extremely untrustworthy and carefully conducted by the publishers themselves). It's not like I've never pre-ordered a game before, especially when I've ridden the hype for a long-standing series that I'm absolutely in love with, but I understand just how worthless a pre-order is and how it fuels bad industry practices.
Never pre-order and never be hyped for anything, treat all commercial media with complete apathy and indifference until the game itself is accurately judged by non professional reviewers who are not bribed. Also triple and quadruple check that it is an actual sound long term investment and not something that is done out of impulse, you don't actually need 90% of the shit that you want to buy long term. A truly good piece of art is supposed to fully change your mind about it no matter how shit or neutral your expectations were initially.
i only preorder anymore if i can get the game for like 20% off from greenmangaming or shit like that if i know i am going to end up buying the game anyways
Game comes out. I want playthroughs on twitch or youtube and I decide if I want it or not. Simple as that. I am 21 and my father would play doom or commander keen and i would be watching and learning. I have been playing games since fucking forever. I don't know how to explain it but its so fucking easy to understand if something is scripted (E3 gameplay videos or trailers) or bullshit. its normal for people to think that something is fucking AWESOME from a video or trailer , they need time to understand some things about marketing. You can't convince people with facts if they don't experience it. We live in a period where developers only care about money (CEOs and shit) and its normal to see games using old mechanics and not trying to come up with something refreshing and new. There is no reason to get frustrated because things will change I am sure! I meet people who follow call of duty series and they say that its the best FPS. I don't try to convince them that its the same game with different models(and its basically taste based so I can't really them what is good or not). They will understand some day(it happens when you try new things). I mean I started with doom, half-life , went to quake 3 and every Id tech 3 game. I played FPS on consoles , pcs and experienced the whole genre evolve. How the fuck can someone like me or another person enjoy games that offer nothing new nowadays? I swear to fucking god i can sense almost everything that is going to happen in a game. I saw a doom video where something similar in dead space occurs. There is some boring ass shit in the middle of the room and if you touch it enemies spawn. I know what to expect from the game but I just fucking go with it nowdays.I just try to get the best out of an experience with every possible way. Sorry for typing too much but I just like talking about shit.
