Surrey resident Kerry Tyler Street is having dental surgery today to repair his broken and missing teeth following what he says was a homophobic attack.
On Wednesday afternoon he says was attacked by someone because they thought he looked gay. He ended up lying in a pool of his blood on the sidewalk.
But surprisingly, this is not the first time.
“For the second time in my life I’ve been gay-bashed. And the catch is, well, I’m not gay,” says Street. About three years ago, he was reportedly attacked for the same reason by three men who left him with a broken nose and broken ribs. Those three men were never caught.
This time Street says he was skateboarding in Guildford when he a man jumped in front of him, punching him, and then when he fell the man hit him again. “Right in the kisser,” says Street.
He says his jaw and nose were broken, and one of his teeth were knocked out. The man then hurled homophobic slurs at him and left.
“It makes me quite literally sick to my stomach thinking about it actually,” he adds.
Four people came to help him out, but Street says the man who did this just walked away from him.
“Because he thought that I might potentially like guys, he thought that was a good enough reason to leave me bleeding in the middle of the street, or on the sidewalk rather.”
Street says the man didn’t try to take anything from him. “He didn’t like my face,” he said, “so he decided to rearrange it.”
“In these situations there’s no point asking why because there really is no why.”
He says he is not angry at the man for what happened.
“I feel sorry for that man, I really do, because if that’s the way he treats people and that’s what he derives pleasure from, he’ll never know true love, he’ll never know true happiness,” says Street. “He’ll never get to experience the things I take for granted. So I pity that man, and I don’t hate him for it. It’s not his fault if he doesn’t know any better, but it doesn’t excuse what he did.”
Maybe he should consider carrying something for personal defense.

Welcome to Canada, where defending yourself is apparently a bad thing and discouraged.
Fucking pathetic society we live in.

If society wasn't awful in the first place you'd have no need to carry weapons to defend yourself. It is a bad thing to need to harm another human being. It can be justified, sure. But that doesn't stop it being a bad thing.
I wonder what the hell is making people think he might be gay, to the point that they attack him for it.

Probably the "non traditional" hair.

Fuck that shit, if someone randomly attacks me in the street without reason I will not give a shit what happens to that person, and just saying, the amount of damage one of those folding sign things cafes/shops use pack a fucking punch no matter who you are and are pretty much designed like a weapon :v:

I don't even care if I need it or not I don't like the fact we've been disarmed by the government and told it is wrong to defend ourselves.

I've always come to the conclusion that if you have weapons stored in safes in your home, you're able to defend it, and it will be safe to do so. But after reading, apparently we have to say; "Sorry you're breaking into our home, could you please leave?" while calling the cops. Even if they have a knife, or bat, you can't do much to them, legally.
So batshit retarded.

This is probably going to sound horrible, so don't hurt me, but he -kinda- looks like it. The last I saw that hair style was in high school, and was tradition for homosexuals. Don't know why, it just was in my school.

Not entirely true. Home invasion laws and defense in Canada aren't terrible. If he's coming into your home or trying to you can do whatever to stop him from doing so. And if hes already in and stealing your shit you can use force to citizen arrest till cops show up.
It's the being outside your home is what I'm talking about.
Guildford is a nasty part of town.
I guess they're trying to beat the gay into him
Guildford is a nasty part of town.
Has a nice mall though
The location of the incident confused the hell out of me. I come from a place in the UK called Surrey and right next to it is a place called Guildford. I was sitting here wondering what the hell Canada had to do with it.

I'm saying if he's aggravated, or going to assault you. If you have weapons? That's the first thing I'd go for. My weapon. If someone broke into our home, and had a weapon for themselves, and started to approach me? I'd shoot them. I wouldn't care if I needed to spend time, someone doesn't just get away with breaking into your home, and then acting aggressively with a weapon.
As for being outside, if I suspect something, then I usually grab my keys and put them into the cracks of my fingers while making a fist. Makes a ruthless weapon for strikes.
He looks like a geeky rocker dude to me.. I am from BC and if I saw him, my first thought would not be to consider him gay.
Regardless.. tis not cool, or ok, to randomly beat people in the street.

Canada stole its place names from two sources
A) Britain
B) The natives, before we murdered them

We used to have a ton of German town names but they were changed during WW1 cause Germans were apparently the devil, so much so we gotta change city names to British lords.

You can't carry a gun but you can carry a knife if you want as long as it isn't a switchblade or the like
As for self defense you're allowed to match force with force whenever you want
Aside from not having concealed carry our laws are basically identical to those in most American states

nothing hardcore about it, stop trying to use internet memes in the wrong locations

A gun is a true equalizer. I do carry a knife but a knife is a one trick pony, I either scare the guy(s) off and disengage from the situation ASAP, or the guy(s) calls my bluff and come at me.
A struggle with a knife isn't something you want to be involved in.
A gun in the guys face and he can't do fuck all unless he wants to die.

The Prairies are probably still full of German-named towns, but that's because nothing has ever happened there or ever will happen

No dude I'm just so jealous of how tough you are. Shooting at first sight, fist-fighting with your keys because you're a weaponry hardass

Some guy starts wailing on you and a gun isn't going to do much except go off in a direction you don't want it to. A gun is only useful as a deterrent to an attacker if you can get it out before they start attacking you. Same as a knife, basically.

Zimmerman disagrees :v:
The way he describes the way he feels about his aggressor is like, the polar opposite of victim blaming.
Offender victimizing?

you've obviously never lived outside of a sub-urban area, your sarcasm is showing.
Sorry, but we're getting off topic.
I don't think any violence is the resolve to situations, but when it comes down to it, people should have things in place to defend themselves.

Ah good work defeating my overused "meme" by saying that if I don't support shooting anyone that mildly threatens you I'm a sheltered suburban child
Because that's never been done on the internet before
I'm so epicly owned
This is actually my friends brother, he told me about it last night, I really couldn't believe it. That being said, he lives in one of the worst cities in BC...
