this is why we need to study history, to prepare for things like the oil leak in the gulf
There was a discovery video explaining why that's a bad idea for the Gulf. The force of the explosion could rupture the sea floor and cause even more leaks. Bad idea.

That's pretty cool.
The only thing about that is how deep is the well itself from the surface of the seafloor? too close and youll just end up with a giant hole.

A nuclear explosion is overkill for a gas leak fire, all you need is an explosion with enough shock to put out the flame then you plug the well up. If you nuked under the sea floor like they're considering doing then there's a chance of making huge waves for the shore, especially since this oil leak isn't [I]that[/I] far out from land. It might work though, it's just sketchy.
