• Marching Band '09 Season

Well, I make one of these threads every year, and with the season only two months away I find it appropriate to open it now. Our show this year is 'La Tangura'. Music is 'La Punalada', 'Oblivion', and 'El Tango De Roxanne'. Show is pretty cool so far were hiring dance instructors to teach the whole band to tango next month. Though the story line is still being kept secret from the band... Please post your show title and music, and just discuss MB in general.
Show is... "Synergy". Don't ask. I'll post a midi of the first part in a bit, need to find it. Our season starts in five weeks, and is preluded by two weeks worth of eleven hour days where very little (besides roasting in the sun, of course) is done. I have unwarranted high hopes for this season, because we didn't have anyone too special graduate this year, and have performed... marginally well in the past.
Our theme could be a lot better. "Tribute to 80's Divas." I play ze tuba. Opener: Call Me - Blondie (Not bad, I like it) After: Holiday - Madonna (My favorite, us tubas get a rockin' bass line) After: Hey Mickey - Toni Basil (I wish I were joking, I really do.) Closer: MacArthur Park - Jimmy Webb (I actually like this song) Our band is relatively small compared to most the high school bands I hear about. We just broke 100 members on the field this year... assuming everyone shows up. Here's our drumline (no I'm not in this video).
Neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerds.
Forgot to mention (like it matters though), our camp starts on July 27th. When does yalls?
man, you guys start early! SDOHS reppin here XD haha northern phoenix, we dont start for another month, none of know the show. our camp is in late august
Don't have our music yet, percussion camp is in 2 days. Center snare aww yeah
I don't really know what our music is this year, "Variation 21" doesn't give me very good clues Our show's called Virtuosi (plural of virtuoso) and the main point of the show is "We are fucking awesome at playing music"
This is my first year in marching band. I play mellophone and i'm loving it. I've been having trouble marching and playing at once but working at it. My band is playing Midnight in Transylvania. Pretty awesome song. [editline]07:42PM[/editline] We started like a month ago. [editline]07:45PM[/editline] Supposibly were going to learn the music and show before summer ends. Then from there on we perfect it till the competition.
I played trombone past 2 years and I'm playing Tuba this year. Show is called "Slide" based around glisses and shit. Marching Show 2 years ago. Early in the season, won us 7th place in BOA St.Petersberg,Florida. That was out of about 40 bands. Last year we got 13th in St.Louis, Missouri out of 64 bands. Oh, forgot to mention section. I'm capable of playing any Brass besides Tuba, but we're low on Mellophones so I'm getting shoved onto that for the third year in a row. As for the size of the band... seventy members on a good year. EDIT: Can't upload shows, our organizers are cocks about copyright.
Interesting, i'm from Florida too. I'm from Felix Varela Senior High School's "Band of Mystery", what school are you from?
Nah, I'm from Georgia. We just go to out of state BOA competitions. To Joe: Nah we went to both Kentucky and St.Louis last year so we don't have any money to go out of state this year, so we'll just stick to locals and BOA Atlanta :( . Collins Hill High btw.
Thread needs saving! Post your mouthpieces! My instrument is tuba! I have a Conn Helleberg (but mine is gold). I'm thinking of buying a Giddings and Webster mouthpiece.

I'm in the front ensemble and I play the "Rack". The show we are doing is "State of Mind" and it sounds really awesome so far. If you are wondering where my band is its from Texas and we are a pretty big band (about 170 members), and our drumline has won many competitions. :D
I have a POS Yamaha Mouthpiece for baritone/trombone
I'm in the front ensemble and I play the "Rack". I wish i could hit the snare like some of those guys. They sync it so well. [editline]09:57AM[/editline] Must take ages of practice.
Enjoi, if you are on the drumline, you should watch these 2 videos. These guys are amazing. Don't forget to HQ! USC Drumline Cadence 05 USC Orgasm 05 (This is fucking amazing)
No i'm not in any marching bands, I don't think i would have the ability to sync so well with other musicians who are playing the same instrument.
Ah, MacArthur Park is a terrific song. I played that one year in Jazz band. It should be interesting to march.
Apparently too interesting, we changed it out for Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me
I got my uniform last night. :D
Anyone see the DCI bands play in their area? Their playing in Atlanta tomorrow so I might go.
