Mitch Winehouse said she had been clean of illegal drugs for three years before she died in July. He told Newsbeat she had replaced her previous drug problems with addictions to exercise and shopping. But added: "Then it was drinking and unfortunately that's not quite so easy to overcome." Mitch Winehouse was speaking as he officially launched a foundation in his daughter's name - on what would have been her 28th birthday - in order to benefit "hundreds, thousands of small charities up and down the country". Amy's addictions He insisted neither Amy's family, friends nor doctors saw her death coming. "Nobody could have foreseen what would have happened," he said. Mitch Winehouse talks about Amy's music and why he finds it hard to listen to her albums. Her father said that he, and the singer's management, did everything they could to help her and that she was on the road to recovery. "Unfortunately as in a lot of addiction cases one addiction can follow another," he said. Toxicology results released last month said "no illegal substances" were in Amy's system at the time of her death. Her family said tests indicate alcohol was present but that it could not be determined if it played a role in the singer's death yet. Public performances Mitch Winehouse said he couldn't bring himself to watch footage of one of Amy's final live appearances at a festival in Belgrade in June. On stage she appeared intoxicated and was booed by the crowd. Challenged on why the singer was allowed to continue with the concerts he said, "Well, they did stop." "The moment her management team knew there was going to be a problem they stopped everything. Amy Winehouse Mitch Winehouse has launched a foundation set up in Amy's name "The problem is that Amy asked to do those shows. "Had you have been at her private show she did the week before you'd have seen the most talented performer in the world - she was on great form." 'Negative' Blake Mitch, who was in New York when he found out about his daughter's death, said he had regrets about some of Amy's life choices - citing her marriage to Blake Fielder-Civil. "It's clear that Blake was a turning point in her life - negatively," he said. "There wasn't anything I could do to stop that - she loved Blake and Blake loved her. "It was a shame that he was so screwed up and that he brought Amy into that same orbit. "If I had a wish - it would have been to have tried to stop her doing that. I did try - I can assure you." New music? But Mitch said he would like to see an album of unheard material recorded by the singer released at some stage in the future. "There is stuff that you haven't heard that could be added to that catalogue. "Through Twitter and though e-mail we get thousands of messages a week saying, 'When is the album going to be coming out?' "Personally I would like the album to come out if the material is deemed to be good enough. "We will have to wait and see but I would think that that is possible."
http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/14898601 I still want to know how she died? It could of been murder, or something like that. (PS, just my personal opinion)
I'm kinda glad Amy Winehouse died. The chick was so greedy she'd fuck her fans out of a show by getting hammered to the point it was embarrassing just to watch her drunken ass stumble around, slur, and sing horribly. No shit Sherlock.
It's funny because her name is Winehouse.
It's funny because her name is Winehouse.
Winehouse Wine house Wine Win My god...
Alcohol is the devil they say here, its true.
It's funny because her name is Winehouse.
haha. house.
I'll drink to that.

That'll probably justify you finding joy in someone's death.
So the horse tranquilizer didn't have anything to do with it?

So because 1 person can't handle alcohol, no one can?
Genuinely surprised about this... I just assumed it would be the collossal amounts of crack and cocaine rushing through her veins.
She shoulda gone to rehab.
Another reason to not touch the shit, at least for me anyway. It's worse than any other drug.
Another reason to not touch the shit, at least for me anyway. It's worse than any other drug.
If you are referring to alcohol there is a drug worst than that such as meth.

The death of Amy Winehouse has taught me that mixing huge amounts of hard drugs and alcohol on a weekly/daily basis is bad for my health. Thank you for opening my eyes.
It was a bad ecstasy that killed her according to autopsy, so I'd say it was a bit more than alcohol that led to her downfall dad.
"bad" ecstasy? So why wasn't there a wave of people dying from that batch> More likely is that the dad is right in saying alcohol killed her, as excessive quantities of alcohol are dangerous to mix with MDxx compounds. Development of a rational scale to assess the harm of drugs of potential misuse. Nutt D, King LA, Saulsbury W, Blakemore C. Drug misuse and abuse are major health problems. Harmful drugs are regulated according to classification systems that purport to relate to the harms and risks of each drug. However, the methodology and processes underlying classification systems are generally neither specified nor transparent, which reduces confidence in their accuracy and undermines health education messages. We developed and explored the feasibility of the use of a nine-category matrix of harm, with an expert delphic procedure, to assess the harms of a range of illicit drugs in an evidence-based fashion. We also included five legal drugs of misuse (alcohol, khat, solvents, alkyl nitrites, and tobacco) and one that has since been classified (ketamine) for reference. The process proved practicable, and yielded roughly similar scores and rankings of drug harm when used by two separate groups of experts. The ranking of drugs produced by our assessment of harm differed from those used by current regulatory systems. Our methodology offers a systematic framework and process that could be used by national and international regulatory bodies to assess the harm of current and future drugs of abuse.
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17382831?dopt=Abstract [editline]15th September 2011[/editline] Of course I disagree with some of it (look where solvents is on the harm scale), but it's not some difficult-to-locate study that is locked in the basement of a university library like you seem to think.
"bad" ecstasy? So why wasn't there a wave of people dying from that batch>
Maybe she had the whole batch. Nice graph, by the way, kind of surprised that cocaine isn't further to the right.
Problem with that graph is you are not seeing dosages or consistency of use. For example, I know for a fact that anabolic steroid use is extremely mild in terms of health effects overall if kept to sensible dosages and short term use (ala 6-8 week cycles, rather than year long use) and actually improves health in certain areas. The biggest concern on a short term cycle is blood lipid profiles, which are worse while using certainly, but quickly recover after cessation. Then again it's not that high on the physical harm scale either. Nice to see LSD being recognized as fairly benign. Heroin though? Why so high on the physical harm scale? AFAIK Heroin isn't all that damaging, it's the extreme addiction thats the main problem?
I always thought she died of a crack overdose.
She drank She stop drinking It killed her
it's like if they tried to find out what killed Sonny Corleone

I'd log onto pubmed with my university account and read the study, but, eh, I'm an australian. She'll be right mate.
