I've set my computer up with HLDSupdatetool.exe, did all the stuff with the console, but when I try to host a game it only shows up in LAN. My friend tried to join at his house but my server wouldnt respond. I can connect to it perfectly fine though. What can I do to fix this?
Thanks in advance
autoexec.cfg:
sv_lan 0
heartbeat
Expanding on below post:
Forward port 27015 on both UDP and TCP on 192.168.1.(yourcomputerhere)
Forward port 27020 on both UDP and TCP on 192.168.1.(yourcomputerhere)
Tell your friend to connect to your ip, like this X.X.X.X:27015

The above logic is sense making yes.
(Don't want to be a bitch but, all ports are open and you've done sv_lan 0 ?)
i set sv_lan to 0, but how to i forward my ip like u said?
type in 192.168.1.1 in your address bar, it's your static IP and if you did it right there should be no password
im srry if i sound dumb but which address bar are you refering to?
Where you put the website you want to go to.
http://192.168.0.1
http://192.168.1.1
One of these should work.
I'm sorry again for being so clueless, but why am I searching for ips? It either doesnt work or just does a google search for it.

Okay so, you have a router, but you're not using it?
What.

He's plugged into the router, which means he should go back to step 1. and go to http://192.168.1.1 and login.
Go to http://portforward.com/
Look for your router's model and click on it. On the next page you will see a list of various applications and games. Click on Steam Server. Then follow the instructions on that page.
