Because it's probably seemed really stupid to him not to try and take advantage of that, since a lot of real stupid shit gets funded.

For those that missed it: Boll invited some critics to a boxing match to be PR for his latest film. He promised them training they never got and refused to fight somebody who actually had boxing experience. He seriously injured one journalist who thought he was getting training.
He also tried to fight some presenters from Attack of the Show. Who are all tiny. So the producers instead offered a contributor that had muay thai and Brazilian jiu-jitsu training. Upon learning he "wasn't fighting a midget" Boll asked for age, height, weight and fighting experience info. He then chose not to appear on the show.
