• US Army accidentally sends live anthrax(when it was supposed to be inactive) to South Korean army ba
The United States military has mistakenly sent live anthrax bacteria to laboratories in nine US states and a US airbase in South Korea, after apparently failing to properly inactivate the bacteria last year, US officials have said. The Pentagon said on Wednesday that there was no known suspected infection or risk to the public. But four US civilians have been started on preventive measures called post-exposure prophylaxis, which usually includes the anthrax vaccine, antibiotics or both. Twenty-two personnel at the base in South Korea were also given precautionary medical measures although none have shown sign of exposure, the US military said. Alex Jensen, a journalist based in South Korea, told Al Jazeera that the Osan base - where the bacteria was sent - was only about 60km from the capital, Seoul. "It could have been worse," he said, adding that the other major US base was in the middle of the highly-populated capital. "I would say that the situation and the panic levels are under control." 'Minimal risk' The four civilians affected in the US face "minimal" risk, said Jason McDonald, a spokesman for the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which has begun an investigation of the incident. They had been "doing procedures that sent the agent into the air," he said. When anthrax becomes airborne, it can cause a deadly illness called inhalation anthrax. That occurred in 2001, when anthrax sent through the US mail to government and media targets killed five people. The anthrax, which was initially sent from a Utah military lab, was meant to be shipped in an inactive state as part of efforts to develop a field-based test to identify biological threats, the Pentagon said.
'Minimal risk'
They will be back by Monday as after all its 'Minimal risk', How bad could it be?
I hope they all turn out to be perfectly fine, anthrax contamination is some nasty stuff.
How the fuck do you fuck up something like this?
I don't know what entails deactivating bacteria properly, but it doesn't sound like a simple process.
Euugghhh that would suck
Yeah right, 'accidentally'. But I may be way deep into all this conspiracy shit and over-thinking a simple case of somebody being a moron that puts others at risk. ^ See this? Read this. I may be paranoid but I outlined that I could be wrong in this case. P.S. Calling somebody retarded when one calls event into doubt? Cute.
Yeah right, 'accidentally'. But I may be way deep into all this conspiracy shit and over-thinking a simple case of somebody being a moron that puts others at risk.
I more wonder if they knew right away that it was an accident, considering how like...blatant it is. If a nation is doing sneaky shit to another nation, they go a little further than popping some anthrax in the mail. At least I hope.

It's an obvious mistake. One that could have been far worse had they not all reacted so swiftly.
oh god, the medication used to treat this shit is some hardcore stuff. The disease sucks but the medicine can you make you feel pretty shitty too
Yeah right, 'accidentally'. But I may be way deep into all this conspiracy shit and over-thinking a simple case of somebody being a moron that puts others at risk.
I think you're way deep into all that conspiracy bullshit and over-thinking a simple accident.

Oh, it's also Mao Zedong in disguise. [sp]Seriously, I haven't used this expression in a long time but for you I'll make an exception: You are mentally challenged. Not everything is a secret conspiracy.[/sp] (User was banned for this post ("Spoiler misuse / flaming" - Craptasket))
I don't know about you guys but I've always preferred Anthrax's live performances more.
I don't know about you guys but I've always preferred Anthrax's live performances more.
I have to agree, its much more intense and you can really pick up on the atmosphere of doom
I think you're way deep into all that conspiracy bullshit and over-thinking a simple accident.
Over-thinking would imply there was thought involved.

You said something incredibly dumb and you're getting dumbed for it. And nobody in this thread has called you a retard, but at this point you're just tempting fate.

Just mentally challenged. Two different things.
In other news North Korea claims responsibility for duping the idiotic capitalist pigs into poisoning themselves. But seriously I hope nobody gets killed by this mistake
I don't know what entails deactivating bacteria properly, but it doesn't sound like a simple process.
Could mean anything from killing them in a way that leaves them intact enough to make a vaccine out to putting live spores in a form that isn't easily airborne.
P.S. Calling somebody retarded when one calls event into doubt? Cute.
Man, saying "but maybe I'm wrong" after saying something totally insane doesn't make it much less insane. I mean a bit of cautious reservation when approaching a possibility is always commendable but it's not a "get out of insane statement free card" :v:
Man, that really sucks. Someone SERIOUSLY fucked up.

Military personal are vaccinated against if I recall correctly. Yeah but this a serious screw up on someoñes part and it doesnt surprise me....

Cute.
There is a huge difference in being cynical and being a nutjob. The military has made gross mistakes like this before in regard to other types of transfers. IE When a cargo plane flew nukes (disarmed mind you) over the US without really knowing it. Hell, even the CDC has fucked up like this too. Plus if you read the article it stated that they failed to deactivate the bacteria last year. If they wanted to kill people they could have done it far easier and blamed someone else.
Live !? Holy shit !
Military personal are vaccinated against if I recall correctly. Yeah but this a serious screw up on someoñes part and it doesnt surprise me....
I'm pretty sure you can't get vaccinated for anthrax?
I just don't like the fact military have stockpiles of biological weapons in the first place, if we can't use them why have them? (I realise this is for counter biological warfare but in the case of anthrax I'd assumed we would have learned pretty much all we can about it by now)

Vaccines teach your body how to fight certain bacteria by literally providing a practice target.
