• "Unsafe" LHC To Be Shut Down For 12 Months
It was only two weeks ago that we were getting excited about the Large Hadron Collider preparing to smash some serious atoms, but now it's been announced that it will be shut down for a year for safety issues. Why? The problem, according to those in charge, is that the LHC is too powerful for its own good; if it were to run at full power, it's possible that it could tear itself apart. Director of accelerators and technology for the project, Steve Myers, is putting a positive face on the issue: "I wouldn't call it a design flaw. It is just that some of the copper stabilizers are not up to the quality needed to go to the full energy level." The shutdown will not take place immediately, but is expected to happen in two years' time; until then, the LHC will run at half-power so as not to risk a FlashForward-scale event, potentially pushing out the project's most exciting discoveries to 2013 or later.
I am still wondering what to think of this. Either they mean it's a bang like a conventional explosion or an explosion which rips through time and space and destroys the universe.
Oh god idiots stop pulling this out. THIS WAS PLANNED SINCE THE START OF THE LHC PROJECT. They are this year going for 7TV. Then, they gonna shut it down, and get it ready for 14TV. It was known from start. Many technologies and systems were never tested before. They had to try them in real environment and then they gonna halt it and modify them using the data they gathered to this point.
Jesus Christ stop postponing the inevitable.

Well you can guess.... It gives me a hadron such news xD
Not only are you late, but they have been planning this maintenance since the start of the LHC.
I think they should just tear it apart. [editline]04:48PM[/editline] Since obviously this is going to go out of control And that it's too much a risk for "Science"
Late as fuck.

It's deep underground, and doesn't do anything what could damage anything out of the complex.
the LHC will run at half-power so as not to risk a FlashForward-scale event
Wow, talk about sensationalism. Somehow a few magnets getting damaged isn't the same as millions dying.
The shutdown will not take place immediately, but is expected to happen in two years' time
Oh shit, they're gunna make that 2012 reality real.
[sp]Boom[/sp]
actually its more like FWOOSHFHSHFASJFAWKLKFLAJWFGHGHGADGFFGHF
The LHC never really got us anywhere, did it.
Because it's not running at full power yet!!! WHY CANT YOU ASSHATS GET THIS ITS NOT FUCKING DIFFICULT, IT GETS THE RESULTS WE NEED FROM THE COLLISIONS!!!! WHEN IT'S CAPABLE OF RUNNING AT FULL MOTHER FUCKING POWER!!! FUUUUU
Well you can guess.... It gives me a hadron such news xD
please stop.
I have a theory that the LHC is causing earthquakes everywhere.

LHC isn't going to destroy the world. A few atoms flying at each other at close to light speeds will not cause earthquakes. That being said it's quite funny what scientists are doing lately (bashing things into other things to see what would happen). And although it is all scientific I can't help but laugh.
It's not a new process.... And it's to see what the constituents of atoms are. You know the building blocks of the building blocks of the building blocks of life.

Never mind scientific laws and biology, genetics, warfare and all that other shit.
