RST Fiber, a Cleveland County, N.C.-based company that develops and manages state-of-the-art fiber optic networks, announced today that it has activated its 3,100-mile underground fiber network across North Carolina. It is the first privately owned company in the U.S. to introduce and activate a 100-gigabit backbone network employing carrier grade IPv6 (Internet Protocol version 6), a critical component for the "Internet of Everything."
RST's network offers up to 100-gigabit per second, symmetrical broadband service to businesses and homes in metropolitan and rural communities statewide, many that have little or no access to even basic broadband connections. In addition to broadband, services will include uncompressed 4K television; VoIP; online education; telemedicine; HD video security/surveillance; a la carte movies and programming; smart grid connectivity/transport; and countless emerging new technologies. Video and television services are expected to launch by the end of the second quarter of 2014.
Then Comcast buys them and throttles everyone down to 20 MBit/sec

Privately owned, not publicly.

I think you forgot the decimal point there.
I'M IN NC!

oh, im in nc....
:suicide:
Fuck yeah, gonna replace Charter as fast as fucking possible.
I think you forgot the decimal point there.
I dunno, seems accurate to me man.
Meanwhile the idiots in charge here think 25Mbps is more than enough.
Actually, why is internet connection measured in bites per second instad of bytes like usually
Actually, why is internet connection measured in bites per second instad of bytes like usually
marketing
one byte is 8 bits but the average consumer won't know that difference
thus 100 Mbps sounds great - until you realise that's megabits, so it's equivalent to only 12.5 megabytes per second

Consider that lucky, I'm in SC.
Still just as shitty, yet we don't get fast internet now. :v:
I get 90 kb/s.
I'm jealous of all you people with 10 mb/s or higher.
i'm pretty disappointed with my 100MB connection, my neighbors get the full 100MB sometimes even 110MB, while here doesn't go past 90MB :(

And this is the best speed you will get in Australia for the next 20+ years unless you are one of the lucky few to already have the ALPs NBN. Apparently this is a sufficient speed going into the future

Why are you on telstra? They're like the crooks of the ISP business.

It is for me. But I pay only 6 dollars a month, which is probably way less than what Australians pay

Maybe if I place my baby ISP under my pillow, the internet fairy will leave me people who aren't inhumanly greedy.

90$ a fucking month
Fuck mediacom.
I am in NC and I'm paying $68 for 35Mbps through Time Warner Cable. I haven't been able to find RST's pricing but even if it's a bit more than what I'm paying now, i'll happily upgrade.

It will be a glorious day when ISPs around the world stop being cocks, a man can dream

I can't help but feel like Comcast and friends are gonna go bitch and cry to the congressman and lobby against it like they've been doing with Google Fiber

Data is transferred in bits per second not bytes per second. Megabit/s is more technically accurate than bytes

I really don't miss mediacom, charter isn't too bad. And out of the 3 or 4 times our internet went down twice it was an issue on our end

Meanwhile here in England :v:

And here we go
This is while using teamviewer+vnc+torrenting linux distros. I pay for 115/25. Really not bad at all. I can easily get 12Mbytes/sec from steam servers. I pay ~120$/mo in Baytown, TX.
