Some of you may remember back in 1999. some of you were 9, some of you were 4 (me).
No matter what age you were, this movie stuck with you for a hell of a long time, and you still remember seeing it in the theatre to this day.

When a group of scientists are offered funding into genetic research if they agree to try and clone the greatest ever Pokémon, Mew, the end result is success and Mewtwo is born. However Mewtwo is bitter about his purpose in life and kills his masters. In order to become the greatest he throws open a challenge to the world to battle him and his Pokémon. Ash and his friends are one of the few groups of trainers who pass the first test and prepare for battle. However they soon find out about further cloning and Mew 2's ultimate plan for the earth

Best scene in the entire movie:

They also gave out dragonite and mew promotional cards. If you still have yours that makes you a high class hustla
I remember it was sold out when I first went to see it. We had to go the next day :saddowns:
I remember when I saw it the lined like wrapped around the block, but we already had tickets so we cruised right in
The Mew card looked pretty sweet
I just watched this last night. Actually make that early this morning.. since I was up all night.
I like this and Pokémon 2000 the most out all Pokémon movies. The only reason I watch it now is because I love Mewtwo's voice.
Awesome movie :3
I'm amazed that the show is still going. Doesn't seem to get old watching Team Rocket blasting off again and again into the sky.
I have my Dragonite promo card right here on my desk. The VHS is in my living room.
I enjoyed this stuff so much as a kid, and I still nostalgia every time I think about it.
But let's not kid ourselves, guys. Everybody knows that the show has gone to complete crap lately, and you know what? When you look back at the older stuff, it was pretty much just as bad.

But I still respect it for being a huge part of my childhood, as it was for a lot of people's for this generation. These kids nowadays, they have no idea what it was like when it first hi the scene...
I've found Mewtwo to be kind of an interesting character. It's especially interesting when you see the extended intro not included in the original English-Dub cut and look up what the original Japanese version of the story entailed...

Mewtwo's an abomination of science who's just struggling to make sense of the world. He freaking murders all of his creators JUST BY FREAKING THINKING ABOUT IT. And if you look in the original Japanese cut, he even went so far as to having religious implications to his plan, disgusted at the fact that he was created by man and not by God. He's on a mission to bring about Noah's Great Flood once again to purge the world of the sins of man.

That's just badass. The movie might have been crap in the end, but it had a wickedly awesome and surprisingly deep villain (When you look up the original story) that I can't help but admire. A memorable villain, to say the least.

Oh, and for those interested, here's the extended version of the intro, originally deemed "Too dark for children". We also learn what it is that the scientist guy meant when he wanted something "much more" when it came to the cloning process. What results rivals the OP in terms of "Saddest Pokemon Scene ever".

Mewtwo and his Scientific-abomination with Religious-Delusions badassery trumps your fluffy pink bubble kitten.

Mew would kick Mewtwo's ass

EDIT: I forgot to mention, in "Mewtwo Returns", there's actually a rather symbolic scene where Mewtwo sacrifices himself to save the other Pokemon, and while he's forcefully restrained he takes on a crucifixion pose.
such great movies. good times gooooood memory's.
When I saw this movie, I was only 9 or so, and I cried at that scene.
Not really cried, but it was one of those moments.
I laugh so hard every time I hear Mewtwo says "Fool, trying to stop our battle." after Ash gets carbonized.
This film put me off Pokemon forever.
I think largely because this is just when they introduced about 700 new Pokemon suddenly.
Pokemon teached us that if you cry hard enough, the one you love will come back to life.

THAT, was awesome, and sad. D;
also i agree with above xD
OP: if ash wasn't a rock, he would've cried too.
I cried when Ash died. My little 6 year old self couldn't handle it :(

Holy shit... If Pokémon was always like this I would probably like it even more.
That origin even sort of explains how the Pokémon`s tears bring Ash back to life!
my dad still has an unopened promo card from this
i saw it twice. got me an electabuzz and also a mewtwo :c00lbert:

Huh?
No.
It consisted of the original 151(MEW COUNTS), and it included sneak peeks of Donphan, Snubull, and Marill from the Johto series.

For goddamn Pokemon movie, that's pretty deep.
And its a shame that they removed that scene, it would have made Ash coming back to life make a LOT more sense.
I had this on VHS, it was sick
Its pretty funny the main theme is not to make Pokemon fight, but the whole point of Pokemon, is to make your opponents Pokemon, "Faint" by beating it up with yours
They gave out more than dragonite and mew cards :)

Me and my friends never understood how to play the Pokemon card game, but we always got the cards and made up rules. I remember I got a solid gold (a.k.a. cheap metal painted gold) pikachu card from mcdonalds along with a toy pokeball which was pretty sweet, wonder what ever happened to them.....
I had the Dragonite one. I found it somewhere. Some kid probably lost it.
