McDonald's to extend it's corporate influence into the country of Tunisia. [IMG]http://wonkroom.thinkprogress.org/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/mcdonalds1.jpg[[/IMG] Source: http://213.251.145.96/cable/2009/07/09TUNIS516.html (Wikileaks cableviewer)
The Ambassador and his wife had dinner with Mohammad Sakher El Materi and his wife, Nesrine Ben Ali El Materi, at their Hammamet home July 17. During the lavish dinner Al Materi raised the question of the American Cooperative School of Tunis and said he would seek to “fix the problem prior to the Ambassador’s departure” as a gesture to a “friend.” He praised President Obama’s policies and advocated a two-state solution for Israel and the Palestinians. He also expressed interest in opening a McDonald’s franchise and complained about the government’s delay in passing a franchise law. He expressed pride in his Islamic Zaitouna radio and in the interviews with opposition party leaders published in his newly purchased newspaper publishing group. During the evening, El Materi was alternately difficult and kind. He seemed, on occasion, to be seeking approval. He was living, however, in the midst of great wealth and excess, illustrating one reason resentment of President Ben Ali’s in-laws is increasing. End Summary.
Well there you have it, president of Tunisia is anxious to see corporate influence of McDonald's arrive into his country. How beautiful. Here's a picture of the president of the ambassador: Thank you, Wikileaks.
Lol ok
Just in case you were interested in fine dining if you ever go to Tunisia. [editline]8th December 2010[/editline] This shows the potential usefulness of wikileaks. [editline]8th December 2010[/editline] Now we have to ask ourselves: Why was this a secret document ?

"Opening a McDonald's franchise" Sounds deadly.
This was really the deal breaker for me moving to Tunisia - whether or not they had a McDonald's.
Top secret information here.
Well that's interesting Why would they need to cover that up?
It's probably code language for a nuke attack on Tunesia. "Opening a McDonald's franchise" Sounds deadly.
Technically it is deadly.
Technically it is deadly.
That's my point.
It's probably code language for a nuke attack on Tunesia. "Opening a McDonald's franchise" Sounds deadly.
Sir, unleash the obesity bomb.
And not a single shit was given on that day.
Tunisia better be prepared for extreme obesity in the next 4 months of launching mcdonalds.
Wikileaks has gone too far this time!
Well that's interesting Why would they need to cover that up?
Because something is classified does not mean it's a cover up.
It's probably code language for a nuke attack on Tunesia. "Opening a McDonald's franchise" Sounds deadly.
I wonder if they'll open a McDonald's in North Korea...
Wikileaks has proved to be nothing but useful.
Well there you have it, president of Tunisia is anxious to see corporate influence of McDonald's arrive into his country. How beautiful.
You make it sound like a bad thing. McDonald's expanding into Tunisia no doubt would bring it bad eating habits, but you fail to see the economics behind it. A massive MNC such as McDonald's entering Tunisia acts as a large stimulus to the Tunisian economy. It's a form of investment that grants economic growth and raises the standard of living of people in Tunisia. Not to mention the socio-cultural influences of Westernization. You might want to read this academic paper : http://homes.chass.utoronto.ca/~salaff/Watson.pdf about the socio-cultural impacts of McDonalds expanding in Hong Kong. QED, benefits > costs.
It's probably code language for a nuke attack on Tunesia. "Opening a McDonald's franchise" Sounds deadly.
McDonalds itself is quite possibly deadly i mean have you seen the amount of calories in some of the items on their menu
thats not the president of tunisia [editline]9th December 2010[/editline] obama met with the ambassador whos in the picture

This is the doomsday file Julian Assange was talking about.
I believe it is a guarantee that the people of that nation will not accept it. I hope that most of this future restaurant gets blown the fuck up.
I believe it is a guarantee that the people of that nation will not accept it. I hope that most of this future restaurant gets blown the fuck up.
:what:
I dont think it's necessarily a bad thing, or a good thing. And I apologize for the mistaken president. That guy did seem a little too.. I don't know, he didn't look like the president of tunisia but I went with it-- turned out to be wrong. Thanks for the correction though. I'll fix it up tomorrow i'm tired as all hell. Exhausted from an hour long treadmill run. It's amazing how fast time goes by when you're just focusing on music while running. Back on topic. McDonalds will provide an economic stimulation, yes, but I just find the entire situation so comical that you can't help but think it's secret because they know, deep down, McDonald's is a 'serious health risk to the people of tunisia" "Cheap food that tastes good?! Now I can stop eating this pita bread cooked on a muddy hot rock!"
McDonalds itself is quite possibly deadly i mean have you seen the amount of calories in some of the items on their menu
your body needs calories to survive. What you should be concerned about is the amount of artery clogging fat in some of their food
your body needs calories to survive. What you should be concerned about is the amount of artery clogging fat in some of their food
I bought a large thing of french fries, and I could not believe the amount of fat in one of those fuckers. The french fries are so cleverly made. They're fucking tiny, so you just keep eating and eating, and all of the sudden you've consumed over half the amount of calories you should be eating in a day.
