Hi,
I am looking for a file sharing solution for my server other than FTP or VPN.
I want my server to host files, and clients being able to connect via http:// or a client app for win/mac.
The possibility to create separate user accounts (much like FTP) is greatly preferred.
Please let me know if you know such a solution.
Thanks in advance
dropbox?
If you drop stuff in the public folder it can be connected to via http.
You can also create various users and add them to certain files/folders and give them permissions etc
Issnt that online storage?
The files are meant to be stored on my own server (I have the physical machine here).
What OS does the server run?

Various possibilities; I'm running VMware workstation and got Windows server 2008, WinXP 64 and Windows 7 at my disposal. I also have Ubuntu on an image, but I'm inexperienced with Linux.
I cba to hack Mac OS X on it, however I will use a Mac to test it client side.

Hmmm... Maybe set-up Debian with Virtualmin, a free open-source web control panel. http://virtualmin.com/ , a bit like CPanel.
Owncloud might work, though you may want to increase PHP's maximum upload size. You can add files from the site or use Cyberduck as a WebDAV client.
I use it on my VPS and it works great. In case you don't see it, the options button is the dark grey gear button in the lower left of the browser window.

Looks interesting, how much memory does it use roughly?

I didn't compare before I set it up, so I don't know. I'm running it on a VPS with 512 MB without a whole lot installed (OpenVPN, Wordpress blog, a small site using GetSimple CMS and Owncloud) and my RAM usage according to htop is 306 MB.
