Erica Jones, 23, was arrested and is now in the Dallas County Jail. Police said she was high on drugs while weaving her vehicle and hitting cars on south Dallas roads. Her eight-year-old son and six-year-old daughter were unbuckled in the backseat. "They were screaming and yelling," said Carla Davis, of the moment she spotted the children in the car. Davis said she called police and then followed Jones' car down Cedar Crest Boulevard. What happened next took the already shocked Davis by surprise. The young boy opened the backdoor. "Half of his body was still in the car, the other half was in the car and she took off 20 to 30 mph," she said. He then jumped completely out. "He was trying to run after the car, screaming, 'Mama, don't leave me, don't leave me, don't leave me,'" Davis said. Davis pulled over and picked up the child and continued to follow Jones as she erratically stopped and started the car down the street. She finally stopped long enough for witnesses to run to her car, take her keys and pull the young girl in the back to safety. All the while, Jones continued to use drugs, witnesses said. "She was still shaking and still smoking it," one witness said. "Yeah it was horrible. It was really horrible." Police arrived shortly after and arrested Jones. Witnesses said her children cried, until other families member showed up at the scene. "She's already traumatized them," Davis said. "That's enough. This is an experience they'll never forget." Jones was charged with driving while intoxicated with children as a passengers. [/quote] Only Texas.
