The animal's lips were burned and its eyes were opaque. A post-mortem examination showed Suzie had been exposed to microwave radiation.
'So drunk'
Parker had initially denied the offence because he made a confession to police when he was drunk.
He later said he had no recollection of events. But he changed his plea before Wednesday's hearing.
The court heard he told officers he had not meant to kill Suzie.
Adrian Morris, defending, said his client had previous convictions for drink-driving and a public order offence which happened six years ago.
But there was nothing on his record linked to cruelty.
He said: "He effectively comes before this court a man of good character."
Suzie's death would have been rapid and the "cruelty and suffering were not prolonged", he said.
But Mr Taylor said: "This is a man so drunk he puts a hamster into a microwave and kills it."[/quote]

I think its more the ethics and necessity of the kill that's in question, The snake needs to eat, as do we. Microwaves, not so much..

Agreed, at worst he should get a few months probation and a fine but throwing him in prison over a hamster seems stupid.

People and snakes need to eat. People however do not need to microwave hamsters for no purpose what so ever.
Although it may just be hamster, we need to nip animal cruelty in the bud before it becomes a regular thing.

I think it's cruel to be a dick towards animals, but in the end, no one will give a shit about that hamster in 2 days even. No one is holding a funeral for it, or going to care one iota for the animal itself. The only thing people care about is the inhumane nature of this act...But it's not human, so whatever. Where as this man has family, and has to suffer the fact that he's in jail, and then this man will probably be fired and have this stupid act follow him for a long time.

Well all of his problems could have been avoided by not microwaving a hamster. To be honest though the most this will affect him is that he won't be able to have pets any more.

Death by microwave isn't humane in any way whatsoever.
There was no point to this whatsoever. That's what makes it fucked up. He wasn't going to EAT the hamster. It would be impractical to do so, considering what little they can give a fully grown human being. He just did it because we was plastered, and its good he is punished for it.
Being an alcoholic doesn't give you an excuse to abuse animals/people. Just because its an animal doesn't mean it didn't suffer, and the person responsible SHOULD be punished for it.

I fucking hate hamsters. Everyone is afraid of rats but they're a much better rodent for a pet. Not once have any of my rats over the years bit anyone, but all the hamsters my siblings have owned have bitten.
I don't condone this bullshit though, what a twisted fuck. He should be in prison a little longer than that, I think.
